I guess it's been long enough, time for the reveal. Most of the guesses are in line with my assessment when i decided to buy it, but only Pickin and Grinin correctly guessed ANACS's opinion. What do you guys think, crack it out, or leave it in the slab?
Of possible interest: it looks to be O-114, based on Overton’s characteristic tells — point of star 7 nearly touches front of cap and, on the reverse, extra-large E’s and right inside serifs missing (faulty A-punch) at the base of all the A’s. Not so common, at R3. To me it looks more like VF20 or 25 with a weakly-struck reverse, but over all solid VF. But then, nobody pays me for my opinions......
Basically the holder tells you it’s authentic and it wasn’t harshly cleaned. Personally, I would rather have it in NGC/PCGS plastic with online pictures and the Overton variety on the label. I doubt they would grade it lower than F15, it looks like a nice coin with original surfaces.
It's no doubt a nice looking coin. I wouldn't doubt that it could have a higher grade in a different slab. ANACS has been grading conservatively. A lot of dealers here in the metro are sending there coins to them. One has said that they are tired of over graded coins just sitting in there cases.
So they prefer under graded coins? With the over graded coins you can put them on "sale" and the customer may feel he is getting a deal. In this case, the customer is not going to want to pay VF 20 money since the slab says F 15.
They aren't selling them for VF20 prices, They would rather see there cases turn over than have high priced over graded coins sitting in the case.
