Because the listings had become blocked from my searches for some reason, it had been some months since I had checked in on Steve's ebay sales. When I was able to do so again recently, I was pleasantly surprised to find some of my old favorites still available for sale. Since I had a bit of free coin cash, I naturally jumped at the opportunity to pick up a few I had always admired. Here's one of them, his Saloninus tet, a really outstanding chunk of Alexandrian sweetness.

Very nice, better than my train wreck. But it was $8 at the time.

    As Steve would say...Sweet!

Yeah ebay is weird lately. Sometimes it says there is nothing for sale when I check a saved seller but they clearly do have things listed...frustrating.

I have yet to get a Saloninus, but here's a Salonina from Alexandria. The portrait I think is really sweet and good for an Alexandrian tetradrachm:

That happens to me frequently and I have assumed it is a function of where I live. Recently I wrote to an eBay seller asking him to look into it. Apparently the US Virgin Islands is grouped with South America (?!) and the seller had excluded South America from the list. After a bunch of messages back and forth he was able to make his listings viewable to me. I'm not sure every seller is going to bother to do that though. Another seller who has been mentioned here lately (as a good seller) also shows zero listings when I know he has a bunch. I wrote him too and he did something to specifically allow me to bid... but I still can't see the listings. Perhaps future listings will be visible.

Anyway, Jay, I think the only way to fix it is to write the seller and see if he or she is aware that your location is blocked. Sometimes they aren't aware.

You're right TIF I've actually done that. I also find If I sign into .com I see listings, if I'm at .ca I may not and vice versa. Sometimes I dont see them at all regardless of what I do. Oh well, more opportunities to support local dealers...

I acquired this humble Salonina specimen from SteveX6. Not exactly a fancy coin but one I really needed for my 3rd Century collection.

Nice one zumbly, great detail and like the placement of the bust something a little bit different.

Yup, there’s still lots of good stuff there, and many are really tempting bargains at their currently reduced prices.
I agree, AA... Steve really knew how to pick ‘em! By the way, I just got back home from a family holiday in Melbourne. We spent four days in Yarra Valley, which was beautiful. In the city, I stayed at an apartment that was 150 metres from Noble Numismatics’ office, but alas, they don’t keep stock of any ancients for sale (I did ask :D).

Hey @zumbly that is a sweet coin!! Found this pic of it which you may already have from CNG, but it gives another view of that fantastic Tet:

This sold for a decent amount (CNG 281, Lot 253) and many of the X6 collection coins are now listed below the auction prices realized - I've had my eye on another couple that I should probably pull the trigger on.

Here is my only X6 Collection coin:

BRUTTIUM, Rhegion. Circa 445-435 BC. AR Litra (13mm, 0.71 g, 3h). Facing lion’s scalp / RECI within wreath. Herzfelder p. 89, B; HN Italy 2485. VF, toned, some porosity.
    Ex Antioch Associates 34 (2001), lot 11
Ex CNG 342; lot 35 (From the collection of a Southern Pathologist)
    Ex x6 Collection @stevex6 via eBay: coin.ages

and a couple Potin Tets which I don't think I've ever shared:

ROMAN EGYPT. Tacitus, 275-276 AD. Potin Tetradrachm (8.12 gm), yr. 1. Laureate cuirassed bust / Elpis advancing holding flower. Köln.3118. aXF, brown patina. ex Charles Reeve active 1890-1930.

Roman Provincial Egypt. Claudius II Gothicus, 268-270 AD. Potin Tetradrachm.
Mint of Alexandria, Egypt, struck 269/270 AD.
Obv: AYT K KΛAY∆IOC CEB - Laureate, draped, and cuirassed bust right
Rev: Elpis walking left, holding flower; L B (Year 2) across field

Exactly! That Rhegion litra is a beauty. If we have any others we're still eyeing that are still available, we should probably do ourselves a favour and pick them up now. I know I'm looking through the list again. :shame:
