Travis, welcome to CT! Notice you just joined today, congrats! Don't know if you just discovered CT today, or if you have been following for awhile & just decided to join, but here are a few tips to get the best responses on your threads:

    1. When posting pics of coins, regardless of your question, always, ALWAYS post both sides of the coin (& take the best pics possible).

    2. When posting, always comment on what your thoughts are, so we have a direction to look - often times the pics are not sufficient (ie, defined enough) to see everything on a coin clearly, especially when minute issues are involved.

    3. Be specific on what you are asking about, as detailed as possible.. something like "What do you think?" is too general/superficial & will generate very few, if any answers.

    4. Do not hijack another thread. For example, if someone else posts a thread questioning the authenticity of, for example a trade dollar, don't post your trade dollar on that thread and ask about it - start your own thread, even if it's the exact same issue/problem.

    5. If you have multiple coins, with different questions, start a different thread for each, otherwise we usually skip over these type threads.

    6. There is a plethora on information on CT (see previous threads) that you can access, & you should at least familiarize yourself with these resources.

If you have realized anything about us, you will know that we have some extremely knowledgeable, experienced people on board, very willing to help. We also like to have fun ; "snarky" comments are most often between members on the thread & should not be taken seriously. (Note: There is a difference between "snarky" & argumentative/combative, in which case you will have to decide when to quit the discussion.) :banghead:

Anyway, have fun with this & good luck with your coin collecting objectives!:happy::happy:

The OP coin is in great shape, but the deterioration of the strike by the die lessens its appeal to collectors as this is extremely common. It is the result of overuse of the die, and happens again and again over all denominations from all countries. For the other 4 cents...

Paddyman98 gave you good scoop, both '70-Ss are large date (low 7) types, the 68-S is maybe AU55, the 68-D has corrosion along with the wear.

PlanoSteve beat me to it, but gave you some great guidance on posting. If you haven't already, go to doubleddie.com, John Wexler's website, and read the sections about "Worthless doubling" and "How dies are made". These sections explained a lot for me concerning damage that you find on coins one finds from circulation or coin roll hunting.

Welcome to CoinTalk and good hunting!

Correct me if I'm wrong but since those are all before 1982 wouldn't they be worth a tiny bit over 1 cent because of the 95% copper? Not even 2 cents but maybe 1 point something depending on the price of copper today. But we can not melt them for the copper so I guess it might not matter.

It doesn't matter, but not just because you can't melt them (legally).

As I have learned here on CT, if you could melt them the process to extract the copper costs more than they are worth. Also, if you have a smelter process them they only pay out about 50% of the value because of the grade of copper recovered.

At least, this is what I have read. You see this "worth more than face value" diatribe on loads of places on the 'net. It's just not true...and is also not worth hoarding the copper cents either. 2 things would have to happen before this hoarding scheme would work:

    1. The price of copper would have to increase to $4 or $5 dollars a pound and
    2. The law would have to change to enable melting.

I offer this info in good faith, passing on many things I have learned and read about in the past year. I am open to anyone who has updated data on this.
