INDIA 2 rupees 2007 doubled die error. sellers pics... The grade is not that good, but I really like the doubling all over it.
Severe coin shortage and they were cranking them out like mad. Stainless steel wasn't good for the dies either so short die life. Put a lot of pressure on the die shop and dies that should have been rejected were used anyway. Not that much different from when we were first starting out with coppernickel coinage. That's why it is hard to find shield nickels or nickel three cents that DON'T have something wrong with them.
That's really interesting! I never really realized that. Usually something with that severe doubling would have a massive premium on a US coin. So if this is a die variety, there must be more right? Considerably more I'd assume if they let it slide, where US coins with this kind of doubling are usually destroyed.
