The Mint just updated their website attempting to explain the reason why they took the server down.

"Because of a transition in online ordering operations, the United States Mint online catalog is currently unavailable.

The decision to suspend access to the website was made on January 15 when we determined we could not ensure uninterrupted service or the reliability of the ordering system until the new provider was given appropriate time to assume and test operations. Although we understand the inconvenience this may cause, please be assured that we are working to resolve the issue and will have the site operational in the next few days."

Was just on here at about 8:45 tonight and was reading this post. Got off and called the Mint, tried ##2 option and was on hold for about 15-20 min. Got the proof silver and proof Half. :thumb: :hail:

Do you think these will sell out or were you kidding? 100,000 gold seems very high for a commemorative + 500,000 Silver Dollars + 750,000 Half Dollars. I was looking at the Silver Dollar, but figured to I would wait until the Ebay flood arrived.

My wife works on servers for a major retailer and anyone that implemented a major change to coding or even a server change during a busy period would be fired. Doesn't the mint realize major changes such as a server change will likely have components that don't always change over.

Yes, it's pretty standard. Almost everything the mint puts out is backordered initially. They always have the disclaimer about not being able to fill an order if it was "waitlisted", but that shouldn't be a problem for this sale.

I just got through and got the lower intro price. Thats not too bad!!! It took me 35 min wait but oh well its worth it.

love that notice , especially the part where you can track your order at http://www.usmint.gov/catalog and when you go there the web site is down. Think they could have either done a small revision to that letter.

3 coin set is about $370 iirc.

Gold proof by iteself is about $300, silver dollar about $40, clad half about $10.

And yes, if you do the math, the intro prices on getting all 3 coins (proof) individually is slightly less than buying the 3 coin set, which doesn't have an intro price. But you won't get the fancy box that holds all 3 at once, if that means anything to you lol...

I had slowed down calling repeatedly yesterday, then got home and finally tried the 'option 2' method. Waited a bit, got through. 10 of each half, 2 of each dollar. We're keeping the dollars as collectibles, as well as 2 of each half. The other halves, probably one each to my neice, and to my dad. The rest, I'm hoping to make some cash to defray the cost of the ones I'm keeping.

As far as sellouts, I don't see the $5 gold selling out, in general, although who knows... The others are actually fairly low mintage, especially for the halves at such a (relatively) low price. Got me thinking, I can't wait to see what the cost and mintage figures of the '1909 composition', 2009 cent will be.

Tomorrow the 2008 Kennedy halves go on sale. Ordering from the Mint is about the only way to get any anymore, since the banks certaintly aren't ordering them. No choice but to try to get through on the phone lol...

If I do manage to get through maybe I'll ask if they have anymore of the bald eagle dollars. Would like an extra as a birthday gift for my dad, think it would go well with his Marine Corps dollar. Don't want to pay eBay markup unless I have to lol...

I called about 10 times right in a row this morning and got through, put on hold for 5 minutes, then got the order placed quickly.

I just picked up one of the Uncirculated Silver Dollars. I'm not looking to make any money, just enjoy the coin. I chose the Uncirculated because I like them, plus they usually have the lower mintage of the two for the commems. I was considering the Unc. Gold, but decided to spend my 300 bucks on something else instead.

Good luck to all who want them!

Oh, and the Mint's website... :computer:

Home sick, and bored (a dangerous combination lol) I decided to see if I could actually get in today. On the second try managed to get put on hold, and after about 10 minutes was able to place an order, so got another proof silver dollar for a gift. Guy who answered was definitely from Tennesee... anybody who's heard someone from Tennesee talk knows what I mean...

No dice on Kennedys though, can't order them until tomorrow (not that I'm worried about them selling out lol...) I suppose I could have combined the orders, but not entirely sure if the silver dollard will still be around tomorrow (probably will, but I don't mind paying a little extra shipping to guarantee actually getting one).
