Why is this eBay seller charging so much for these FECs?

Matt Barr always charged a lot, but you can cherrypick him if you watch for varieties.

That second one will clean up really nicely with acetone, and would probably straight grade XF45, making it a fairly priced coin. But you got to be willing to take the risk and do the work.

I don't think those coins have such a value, because there is also a Best Offer button. So if the seller asks $95, he might also accept a $70 offer. That's still too much though.

Barr is workable. Sometimes i get annoyed by his sheer number of listings but he's very fair imo.

He's hoping someone will bite, if they do, more power to him. Anyone can put anything out there with whatever price they like, doesn't mean you have to click "buy it now"

In my experience they don’t budge all that much on the best offers, but maybe it depends on the coin. I’ve had mixed luck- cherry picked a variety and it was problem free, next time was a three cent piece that was bent without being listed as such. Your mileage may vary.

physics-fan3.14 You got any more of them.... prooflikes?

Because he can, and because people will buy it anyways.

His photos are terrible. I think a couple are better than they appear because landmarks I look for are there. Still not worth the price.

    Some appear to be culls.

Have you had luck cleaning copper with acetone?

I don't clean it. I conserve it! Usually melts that green stuff right off.

How long do you leave the copper in the acetone? Doesn't it dull the patina?

I have left copper nickel cents and bronze cents in up to 12 hours. But it usually doesn't take but a few seconds and some light work with a Q-tip.

As far as the patina, well, it gets rid of the green patina. Never hurts anything else in my experience.

A seller can charge whatever he pleases. It's up to us to use our good judgment and experience to see through a person that is merely trying to separate us from our money.

True that. I think he overcharges and just wanted to make sure that I wasn't missing anything.
