I recently purchased a complete set of Lincolns up to 1940D minus the 22 plain and this gorgeous little guy was better than expected. Nice golden color. I looked it up in the PCGS counterfiet guide and he seems legit. I am very curious as to what you fellow cointalkers think. Thanks Tom
This one was the highest grade wise which doens't bother me one bit. There was 2 really nice 1909 vdb's in the set one which I kept for my vf-au set. You know the holes which show the wheat reverse I couldn't believe there was a nice unc brown 09 vdb in that hole as well as the regular hole for the 09 vdb.
What would you grade it at? I have my opinions... The specks on the reverse is dirt, I thought it was carbon at first but I was able to get some of it off with some warm distilled water.
There's something going on around the mintmark. All that dark gunk could be hiding evidence of an alteration. I hope it is not an added mintmark. Have you inspected the mintmark with a 10X loupe?
The dark gunk is dirt, I didn't want to probe around with anything in fear of scratching him. The mintmark is definetely legit.
This is one of those AU-62 situations. I cannot really see wear, but unc coins don't get packed with dirt, so it has been circulated in all probablility. It also is hard to tell, but the color is a bit pale..... Tell ya what, I grade it $1350 if I were to sell it
It looks like there is black material around the word liberty as well as the lettering at the top of the coin. I'm by no means an expert, but that would lead me to believe that it has probably been cleaned lightly at one point or another rather than having an alter mint mark. I would think if the mint mark had been altered the black would only be around the "S." As for the grade, I would call it a high XF...maybe even an AU. But again, I'm not expert in Lincolns.
That is exactly what I was thinking but a little higher than the $1300. These keys are really on fire as of lately. I was thinking AU 58.
Id put it in my store at $1500/make offer, then take an email offer of $1350...I went back and edited my original price It is impossible to declare genuine off pics tho, I would have to see it in hand, I make that reserve, but it does look perfectly real, shape and placement are die#2 all the way
Yes, it is the correct mintmark alright. Fakers have been known to add the correct MM to an '09 VDB and hide the seam with dirt. If you see markers that indicate the obverse is a genuine '09-S VDB that's good enough for me. I don't know those markers.
Wow, sweet! That is one great looking S VDB! Man, looks like very slight wear on the highpoints, and also the dirt around the mintmark, I'll say AU-58. Sweet coin man! :thumb: Phoenix
Just traded this coin for 2 certified 1916 D Merc's and a 1799 Silver Dollar, cleaned and damaged but still a nice coin, and a 1837 Feutchwanger Token graded XF.
You did great...I have sold 2 1916-D Mercs recently, both AG-3, one was an anacs and the other was an NGC, $660 and $700 if I remember correctly
They both were AG-3, One is on the flea bay right now in PCI holder. Too bad you can't list pci in the listing. The other is on hold for a little bit it a little nice AG-3 in an Anacs Holder.
