No. just a blob of silver. What I find ridiculous is that people buy these graded. it's bullion people. next you will be telling me bars are coins too ?
@spirityoda.. I am just curious. Hope you don't get mad at me asking.. But I though that if something minted that had a denomination such as the coin in question it is considered a coin that can be used to purchase something. It does state ONE DOLLAR. It is also my understanding that if it does not have a denomination then it is considered bullion. I don't collect these so I want clarification. Peace
The American Silver Eagle is a coin. Not a round. Not a medal. It is a coin. You are 100% incorrect and spreading false information. Please stop or the mods should remove your posts and suspend your account.
Actually $10 is a great deal. Even the lowest prices for these today is far beyond that price. The lowest I've paid with fees and shipping come to about $20.50 each.
I thought the silver eagle was a one dollar coin, hence the one dollar designation on the coin. On the US Mint website they refer to it as a one dollar coin, even though they say it is bullion. I believe it to be "legal tender" but I would not recommend it be used in that manner. But if real, I would not sell it for $10 either.
The ASE is legal tender if one wants to use it that way. You can take it to a bank and deposit it if you so desire (for $1 as minted on the coin), which you cannot with a blob of silver or misc round. To certain numismatic people, it's a coin and has a value above spot silver, depending upon it's condition. Certain years also have varying values depending upon mintage numbers. But one's personal preference of whether it is a coin or a blob of silver is one's personal preference. either way, a 1 oz blob of silver is still $14.64ish.
Apmex is selling single 2011 ASEs (BU) for 19.71 - Coinflation lists ASEs (therefore they ARE coins) at 14.62 - $10 is a steal ( ) - make sure you're getting genuine ASEs, then buy all you can get
Here's a mailing ad from the US MINT. I think the same organization that also mints the cents, nickels, dimes, quarters, half dollars and dollar coins that we all use. Also Silver, Gold, Platinum and Palladium Eagles which all have a denomination. *and* various medals and such which do not have a denomination. Many dealers won't differentiate between circulated, uncirculated and Proof ASEs (etc) for valuation above spot. Except when they sell them.
Someone peed in his corn flakes. It's a coin are you happy now ? As I said it was my opinion not yours. Paddyman98 I could never be mad at you... I respect you. Suspend me really ??? I am a supporter dude.
Anyone can be a supporter. edited You use more emojis than a 12 year old girl. Thank you for admitting you were wrong, edited
Can all involved stop this hissy fit. It is a nice Sunday afternoon/evening , enjoy it. The forum is ablazed with way too many arguments over money/coins/bullion/token/grading/composition/errors/varieties/etc. Collect what you like, call it what you like ....but if people can't understand what you are talking about, they can't properly answer. And supporter are greatly appreciated, but they get no special treatment on the rules, number of emojis, how old they are , etc. just special treatment in advertising and such. Thank you all. Jim
I can sympathize with @spirityoda not considering ASE's as coins...in a way, I don't either. However since they have a denomination, they should be considered coins just as much as my 5 oz silver hockey pucks I have that are marked "Quarter Dollar" or my 1/4 oz gold standing liberty also marked "Quarter Dollar". I know the mint also makes medals which have no denomination. Does anyone know why certain bullion items from the mint have denominations? Separately I remember seeing a guy trying to pay at a drive-thru with a 1 oz AGE marked 50 dollars and they didn't want to accept it...
I can see by your age by getting so bent out of shape over nothing. I have been collecting coins for 20 years. It's clear to me that you will not allow anyone else to have an opinion other than your own. I use emoji's because I am not aloud to swear here. Clearly you deserved the face palm hand. ASE are coins but you would not actually spend them in public. Do not like me use the ignore button on me. you just went on ignore @AnonymousCoinCollector
Actually if you peruse the people here that own stores you'll find they've stated in the past that they've had Morgan/ Peace Dollars and ASEs show up in the register. *We on Cointalk* won't use an ASE for money, but that does not mean that someone else in the general public wouldn't use it for it's denominated value. from https://www.cointalk.com/threads/cash-register-finds.210660/
I'm not saying this coin is fake, but these have been counterfeited a great deal recently, and the price would not be a steal if they are fakes. Still waiting on a weight test.
