I have always had a liking to these and I found this one just over a price of a meal so I bought it.

    JUDAEA. CAESAREA. SEVERUS ALEXANDER AE 20 20MM . 9.59G
    15.jpg
I couldn't find it in wildwinds but this was fairly close to it.

    Caesarea Samaria Hendin 839

Severus Alexander AE 22 mm of Caesarea, Samaria. Laureate, draped bust right / Eagle supporting wreath containing SPQR on spread wings. Rosenberger 88

its not the nicest coin but it will surely do especially for the low pricetag.

    Next was:
    NABATAEAN KINGDOM. ARETAS IV & SHAQUELAT AE 18. 18MM . 3.74G (semi-cleaned)
    18.jpg
and I saw this and it was a decent example for a low price:

SELEUKID KINGS of SYRIA. Demetrios II Nikator. First reign, 146-138 BC. 22mm 6.07g (semi-cleaned)
    11.jpg

this last coin well I like the animals on ancient coins...

    TRAJAN. AE QUADRANS. HERAKLES / BOAR 14MM . 2.83G (Semi-cleaned) 16.jpg

I do get asked why I buy semi-cleaned coins for a lot of the nicer detail ones I have purchased. two reasons. the first is the price tag is usually a lot easier and the satisfaction of finishing it off myself. I have complained at times and found some coins unbearable and take breaks but in the end the feeling when its done makes it worth it.

I actually bought these 4 with 4 others. all but one were semi-cleaned. I think these four will turn out with great details. The cross one will take more work but I like the style. It was not common on Roman coins to my knowledge.

All of these were really cheap with the exception of the Marcus Aurelius Sestertius, but it was still cheap compared to fully cleaned ones.

I can probably do without a few meals. I have gotten a little belly since I retired from the army. Age caught up fast and the fact of minimal exercise.

Thats a great assortment, @britannia40 ! I like the Seleucids and Nabataean coins because they are still very affordable. Here’s my Demetrius II.

Okay, I don't actively collect ancient coins, though I will buy a coin depicting Jesus if I see one in a good price range (not that I know enough to say what a good price range is), but now you have me wanting to own an SPQR coin. What a cool piece of history! Thanks for sharing.

Welcome to the Ancients Forum @Seattlite86 ! Some of us specialize in Biblical coins. You should post your coins featuring Jesus. We’d love to see them!

Thank you, @Seattlite86. I must have missed this one. This thread dates back to the time when I hadn't yet begun to appreciate this awesome forum. Beautiful coins!

Oops! I mean the thread that was created in 2016 o_O

Thank you and I agree! I will treasure them always and hopefully add to them when I find the time to slip over to the dark side.
