What does the reverse look like?

 

Looks like '08 to these old eyes.

 

with the naked eye yes it does, at first I was getting excited

 

If it's a wheatie, it can't be 1908.

Sure looks like an ‘08 but that can’t be unless someone at some point tried to alter the date.

Well let me throw my 2 cents in here I beleive that it is a 1938 the 3 has been damaged to give it the appearance of an 08. We know the wheats started in 1909 if memory serves me through 1958.JMO

With pareidolia one has to ignore what you think you see and look at the date in detail. Those microscopic images I don't think help as it just sharpens shapes to make you think something is there.
