Wanted to share this penny I found that has no mint stamp...anybody know how to find where they were made if there is no mint? Also i think for being a 1959 penny it looks in pretty good condition....Since i'm still just learning of all this coin stuff how would i know if this is something worth sending for grading? Any opinions would be appreciated thanks. Hope these pics help.
Welcome to CT. It is in nice condition, but there rolls of these being sold on e-bay for not much above face value. Cents made in Philadelphia never had a mint mark until 2017. Previous to that they are left blank, with the ones made in Denver having a D and San Francisco with an S. Hang around awhile and read.
Your cent was minted at Philadelphia. It would not be worth submitting for grading as it is a very common coin worth very little. Although I can not be certain if it is circulated or not from the pictures, I do see distracting contact marks on Lincoln's beard and on other places as well, which means even if it were uncirculated, it grade a low MS grade. Examples for this particular date and mint in that condition are worth less than a dollar. By the way, the only time the Philadelphia mint ever placed the P mintmark on cents was last year in 2017 in honor of the US Mint's 2225th anniversary, all other years no mintmark was used.
Thanks 4the info It's amazing there are so many vids on YouTube that just make you feel like you finally found that money maker lol
@LuckyCoin I consider Youtube Videos a fountain of misinformation! I'm sure there are just a few that are true to there description but most are misleading.. we get a lot of new members who state "they saw on youtube" and then we have to let them down
You should get yourself a copy of the Redbook. It has lots of information, and is a good guide for the relative values of coins. It slso has info on the different kinds of errors. It will pay for itself. Welcome!
I have a theory that YouTube videos are a slick marketing campaign from the TPGs. They must be responsible for thousands of submissions a year.
God knows I love to be informed first of something then assuming something and looking like a dumb azz... lol I can't thank everybody enough for sharing there passion of coin collecting. I def see now why its addicting and challenging. There is so much 2 learn but yet the hunt is priceless and thx for the pic comments...
