Fun New Thread .....

Collecting anything can at times become stressful. Reasons being the presure we put on ourselves, and from our peers.
Sometimes depending on your pockets be they shallow or deep one cannot afford higher priced items. ie key and semi keys needed to complete a series.
I've discovered a release from the high and lows of being able to afford high dollar coins.
Or better yet relieving the pressure of finding that one specimen needed to fill a hole.
One needs to focus on something fun something to fill the need without emptying the pockets.
Elongated coins namely pre 1940 cents.....mostly cents,mostly centennial and such.
When you hole fill there's always a hole that needs to be filled.
Collecting sometimes becomes stressful....it shouldn't be... Collecting elongated coins there is no sets to be completed....unless you want there to be....just smashed pennies nickels etc.
Celebrating major events that the everyday man can afford.

So lets see " PRE" 1940 Elongated cents and coins that you have in your collection.
Remember elongated coins sometimes do have two sides....post both sides.
Maybe a brief history of the specimen and how you obtained it.

I have quite a few to share which I will post later when on my main PC.
Two of which I've had since a kid that were passed down to me.
One a FDR 1936 that was kept in an old envelope 2x2 that has toned a pretty rainbow shade.
There's one other thing I like about collecting these....they were the lower/middle class
Souvenir to remember a fun or historical event.
Some what like love tokens were the lower class means of giving a love one a token of their love.

Nice thread idea. I collect copper art rounds for this same reason. No stress. Just buy what I like without having to worry about price or condition.

 

Shoot...... the only stuff I get is up on the 'thruway' or on the 'turnpike' and I got's to press them myself.........

 

Yeah you can pick these up reasonably,sometimes even in the junk boxes .
I don't believe i have spent over $12 for any of the ones I collected, most times less. That's why these appeal to me. Reasonable fun,and historical .
Sometimes I can vision the day they were created, a token in a simpler time,when less was more,and a treasure could be had for pennies.

Yeah I like them....as they were simple souvenirs for the common man to remember a special event.
Also the era of my parents....depression people...it makes me appreciate simple things....like a squished penny.

They are fun to collect. I can never pass one of those machines without getting at least one.
