I've had this cent since my father passed away 25 years ago. I discovered there are many versions of the 1794 large cent and would appreciate help identifying this coin and an estimate of its value.
Very nice coin! Looks genuine to me (there are lots of counterfeits running around these days). I'm not sure of the variety, but I'm sure someone will come along who does know.
I always use this site to identify varieties of Large Cents and other coins: https://www.usacoinbook.com/coins/large-cents/liberty-cap/
In my opinion, it is a Head of '94, which is the most common. NGC has a value of $850 retail in VG condition. (VG just sold on EBay for $438, as a better estimate.) I'd call this VG to F, but hard for me to grade, personally, with that much of a worn rim. Others would be better at assigning a grade.
Thanks for everyone taking the time to look. I had to google details and graffiti as it relates to coin grading. Really cool to think of this coin jingling in someone's coin purse back in 1794.
That's the cool part. Knowing that people actually handled and used this back in the day; along with earlier Colonial coinage. What's the odds that the same people related to the earlier Revolutionary War, used that coin at one time.
