There is an advantage at being new to the hobby. The contest rules only allowed coins purchased in 2017 or 2018 so a beginner with wide interests will have an advantage over someone who is running out of coins on the want list that will show well. I really disagree with this. Some Eastern mints of Gallienus toward the later part of the reign are often broad and bold but silver washed AE rather than solid silver alloy. Unfortunately, they did not make the popular zoo series coins or have the wonderful portrait style of the earliest period like the contest coin.
Oooh, drama in the final hours! Pavlos just edged ahead. Hmm. I wonder if my bookie will let me pull that bet? Oh well. I don't need both kneecaps anyway
There is still time to vote on this close and very entertaining match up. This poll will close at 11:51 PM CST which is just about 4 hours from now. This has been a fun one to watch with two very good entries!
Congrats @Pavlos... very nicely played! Unfortunately for me, it looks like even a tricked out Gallienus cannot outshine the radiant Helios himself. Throw in that pretty Rhodian butterfly and you have one awesome coin fully worthy of its win. Now, it's time for me to grab my spot in the spectator stands so I can relax and enjoy the rest of the tournament. Good luck to @Cucumbor, @Pavlos, @ancientcoinguru, and @Severus Alexander!
Great match @zumbly and you can be proud on that Gallienus. It will only be a hard choice for me what my next coin will be for the next round, I am slowly running out of coins and the next auction I want to bid on will be somewhere in the end of September.
All of our Round 3 matches turned into fantastic contests. Results #24 @Pavlos - 92 Winner #32 @zumbly - 86 Z took the bargain category with his fabulous Gallienus while Pavlos took the edge in the eye appeal and interest categories to come out on top in this very close match up. Big thanks to @zumbly whose support and participation has been a major reason the past two tournaments have been so much fun. You always provide excellent content and I always end up learning something new from your entries, Z. Much appreciated. I think it is also worth remembering that Pavlos was reluctant to enter at first because he was new to collecting and yet here he is with a guaranteed medal and still alive to win the whole tournament. Congratulations @Pavlos , I'm glad you decided to join us for the game! @Pavlos will move into the semifinals where he will face off against @ancientcoinguru ! We are probably looking at another week more or less till we get the semifinal matches posted so stay tuned for more fun
Sorry for your wonderful Gallienus @zumbly, and congrats to @Pavlos : defeating Zumbly is something I didn't succeeded at last year, because of the big guns and talent of the dude. Q
Heh... you are a hoot, Q. Anyway, I've been cheering for you so far, and will continue to do so. Please give that Darth @Severus Alexander guy hell, I hear he's not been taking his upcoming match with you very seriously...
How dare you spread fake news about me! I was going to express sympathy for your loss, Z, but now I think I will just say: "You are a part of the Rebel Alliance, and a traitor!" (That there is my Sith sidekick, Canadian Darth Beaver, with and without mask. Look on him and be afraid.) I have the utmost respect for my upcoming opponent, VercingetoriQ. I hear he has been taking lessons with Yoda.
