Okay so every Friday when I cash my check at the bank, I get 25$ in pennies. Then I go through them and look for any wheat pennies. Well, last Friday i found this while I was looking through a roll I’d gotten. I was hoping someone could give me an idea on value.
First, does it stick to a maganet? Second, what does it weigh? Without knowing these two things I will say it is a copper plated steel cent. My chance of being correct is better than your chance of having a 1943 copper cent.
Not knowing your coin knowledge forgive me for stating the obvious. A genuine copper 1943 cent is exceedingly rare and quite valuable. That said, the rarity of the piece makes it highly unlikely this one is the real deal. As said before the color is a bit off and there may be signs of copper playing. However if this one passes the magnet test I believe this one merits the cost of a TPG investment.
Looks like electrode indentations on the reverse of the coin at top and bottom. What is the notch on the reverse rim at about 11 , at the "p"? Jim
If it's real it's prob plated over the steel cent. If it was copper it's been harshly cleaned. Could be an altered dated but the 3 looks OK. Odds of it being a newly discovered rare 1943 copper, compared to the millions of 1943 fakes. 4-1.
