what year did he find it?

We know it's hard to fathom that it may be fake.
We've had many posters come here to stipulate everything only to find out that it was made recently and fake.

If you go to a high end coin dealer .. search for one in your area, and have them look at it. Then if fake, sell it to the jewelry store.

There are literally tons of fake ones selling out there. Being made in China mostly and many are good enough to beat pawn shops & jewelry stores where they may not be real coin experts. I found copies of it on a china site but we try not to link to certain websites.

physics-fan3.14 You got any more of them.... prooflikes?

There is literally zero reason to waste any more time trying to authenticate this coin. It is 110% fake. Not even close to resembling anything real. I'm not sure why you keep trying to give the guy hope that its real. It is fake.

And, to the OP, how much does it weigh? If it is actually solid gold (which I strongly doubt), then the value of the piece will depend on the quantity of gold it contains.

Post size and weight. If it's 22K, then you should be able to tell based on looking at the price of gold if you are being offered close to what it's worth. The only thing the pictures tell us is that it's not a genuine US coin.

what is the size of your coin ? I think I know what this is. I have a set of 3 inch coin coasters that look very much like this 1 you have...

I have the Liberty 20 dollar drink coaster somewhere I just can not find it right now. It is not solid gold. it could be plated very very very thin gold layer ? mine looks like gold paint over some basic metal not gold.

100% agree. Anyone who knows about this coin or owns any other St Gaudens can tell you it is a fake, no doubt, no discussion really.

If someone truly offered you $1800 for it take it, buy a real St Gaudens and put $550 in your pocket.

If you are truly interested in finding out more about this fake coin, please post diameter, thickness, and gram weight and we can give you even MORE reasons besides appearance why it is fake.

Don't forget, Handheld XRF analyzers only tell you what's on the surface. Analysis of a gold plated object will only show the composition of the plating, not the entire coin.

Also, how did they test the density? Immersion test? Arithmetic? Sigma Analyzer?

I think I am going to buy a set of those coasters. They're pretty sweet!
