If you can dish you can also take. This is just the way it works and the sooner you understand the obvious, the better off you'll be. Although commonplace today, most seem to be growing tired of people who think it their right to fling poo whenever they please, yet hurry off to blame anyone/everyone else when they happen to get dirty.

Also, and contrary to popular belief, grass doesn't make one retarded. The mundane may become uncontrollably funny and the normally unappetizing may become the tastiest food known to man, but that's about it.

When you aren't sure how someone will take your words it is advisable to add a smiley.:smuggrin::smuggrin: Saves having to justify yourself at a later date.

I give PCGS crap all the time about "lable errors" but I tend to agree with them and the other three TPGs most of the time (that hurt to say more than I thought it would:bag:).

    Try this one out:

    Is PCGS wrong?

Yes, it is good to get younger people active in coin collecting, but it is another thing to to be brash, rude, and overly smart. To call out Mr. Campbell and Mr. Fazzarri by name, two of the most respected numismatist in the U.S. today, is crossing the line. Definitely bad taste.
    Just an opinion.

There are countless examples of legitimate criticisms against TPGs, but much depends on how one looks at it. If approached from a pro-hobby standpoint a large portion of their entire business approach is highly questionable and self-serving, but it looked at from a business perspective is really quite reasonable as well as predictable.

Personally, I think injecting grass or any drug into it only negates any point one was hoping to make. If whatever issue one has cannot stand on its own merits (or lack thereof), why bother broaching it in the first place and/or give any reason for others to discredit ones position?

You, and apparently everybody else, took something intended to be a farce situation, and me merely being facetious, and completely bent it out of proportion as though I was discrediting them and their knowledge. I apologized and clarified what I was saying. I thought this hobby and forum was supposed to be fun and enjoyable, not a board verging on an almost political atmosphere, which is how this feels to me.

You know what, I really don’t think I need to post here anymore, nor do I even have a desire to. This reminds me of one of the many reasons why I took a 4 year hiatus from numismatics, and I don’t wish to develop another bad taste in my mouth for a passion I have had for as long as I can remember. The older generation so quickly loves to point out how much more they know and fails to realize my generation (or the few that even participate) are the ones carrying this hobby into the coming generations. The same people discrediting younger folks in the hobby, merely on age alone, are also the ones complaining that the hobby is dying. I have studied coins seriously for a decade now and will continue to. Granted, as has been pointed out, you all know far more than me.

Take care guys. If I need numismatic knowledge or insight, I will simply get in touch privately with the people I personally know and respect in this field, rather than post on the open forum.

    @1916D10C,
Just keep acknowledging you were out of line and apologizing, then it will fade. I've typed things I've regretted here before, too, and made poor decisions. Own it! Take your lumps and move forward. If you just disappear, instead of building new relationships, you leave a lingering bad taste in everyone's proverbial mouths.

If leaving makes you feel better, which I don't think is the case, then go for it. But consider that many here will forgive and forget (as you should) and if you decide to stick around you might learn from them, as they might possibly from you.

Well Mr. Millenial it never fails that your age group seems to believe they know it all.
From your post and style I would of bet your departure would of been sooner then later!
Quite a few members here have been here for years ,decades, and collecting even longer. Much longer then the 23 day tenure you managed to rack up.
True yes there are many opions on this forum. Many do spar over disagreements, however still manage to conduct themselves in a mature manner .
Reading some of your replies maybe it would be a good thing that you first read and digest some of the wealth of knowledge found here, and when able to run with the big dogs be apart of the pack join in.
There's been teen members here whom have joined in conversation whom have conducted them selves in a adult manner, and not just thrown a tantrum.

Stop for a moment and think about how you lambasted the forum for having an "almost political atmosphere" yet you keep going on about how it was just a joke while essentially criticizing others for not seeing it your way. See the problem and/or how you're contributing to said political atmosphere? Apologizing for a distasteful joke is laudable, but doesn't mean much when the apology rings hollow because of wholly unnecessary attempted justifications.

No one wants you to leave, but based upon past experiences I'm also guessing few really care. Not because they don't like you, but simply because you're now playing victim. It's easier to respect someone willing to face criticism than someone wanting to run to a safe space to hide from it. There isn't a day that passes that I'm not eternally grateful for the emotional beat downs I received (from non-family) when younger and simply because it both toughened me up as well as helped me become more objective and self-reflective. Think about it.

I would also bet on the fact that if you simply owned the mistake without trying to justify it or pass blame off on others, you'd probably be respected for it. No one can rightly fault you for a failed joke, but once learning that the joke wasn't cool, it's better to simply accept it instead of trying to slyly convince others you're right and everyone else wrong, or to try to spin in into being something wholly unconnected as you have here. Also, please drop the victimhood nonsense as this has nothing to do with age. Embracing such nonsense is only helping to hurt your case even more.

Every one of us can learn something from the next guy, even if not about coins. This isn't a peeing contest unless you make it into one, and that's exactly what it looks like you're trying to do. You're clearly not a bad guy, so please, just slow it down and try to become more accustomed to the forum. Again, let folks get to know you and you them.

    JMHO, of course.

Ironic you should say that, as I never have claimed to “know it all”. Cite one post where I ever said that.

And I have conducted myself in an adult manner. Having a sense of humor does not imply immaturity.

    See what I mean?

Keeping digging that hole if you want to, but you'd be much better off instead trying to climb out of it.

I just hope you learn from the results of your actions. As of now, you still don't understand.

The young man has apologized for posting misinformation involving me. I accepted and my name has been removed from the discussion as someone who graded that particular coin.

Unfortunately, if he decides to leave, IMO, it will be due to the state of affairs in this country occurring with the new generations. They are receiving participation trophies, are not held responsible for many of their actions, look for scapegoats, and demand "safe spaces" where they matriculate. It does not bode well for the future. :(

On the other hand, we need more of these folks around. This is the most fun and activity I've found on CT in months. :D

The placement of the MM matches, but I can't tell if it's an MM or something else.

I won’t leave after all. A person who I have looked up to for 6 years, who also posts on here, requested that I not leave for sake of sharing what I know. Even if I positively impact just a few people, that’s what matters.
