I have a Kennedy half dollar 1965 that weighs exactly 12 grams. That's too low to be a 12.5 gram silver coin and too high for the 11.5 grams 40% silver/clad 1971 -. Can anyone here provide insight.

 

It is almost certainly a slightly heavy 40% silver half. Legal low weight tolerance for a 90% silver mplanchet from 1964 would be 12.241 g Yours is .241 g less than that (by the way how precise is your scale? 1, 2, or 3 decimal places? That is important to know. The maximum weight for a 40% planchet is 11.9 grams. Yours is only .1 grams more than that. Since it is considerablly more likely to be a 40% silver coin.

I have a 1979 Kennedy half dollar with no mint mark and weighs 11.58 I'm looking up any info for this any help please and thank you.

 

You have a 1979 half dollar made in Philadelphia that is within weight tolerance,in other words you have a normal coin.

I have a 1971 half dollar and it weighs 11.4 looks like it is copper and nickel. I'm not sure but assuming it's worth face value. It has been in circulation. With the weights I've seeing and researching could this possibly B 40% silver/clad? Thank You for any info.

 

You can't tell 40% silver from coppernickel clad by weight, their tolerance ranges overlap too much. If you see a strongly copper colored center layer it is almost certainly coppernickel. If you want to be absolutely sure a tissue test could help but a specific gravity test or an XRF test would make it certain.

 

I also have one that is a Kennedy half dollar from 1965 that weighs 12 grams. Were you ever able to find any information about yours? I'm curious to know about the coin!

 

I just started looking for the weights of the Kennedy Half dollar. I just completed going through a whole box of rolled coins. I found many that look like they lost their clad layer and they weigh 11.2 - 11.3 grams I'm not sure but they don't have any shine or luster and have darkened in color.
