A friend of mine found this 1853 Liberty Head dollar on the border of Colombia Venezuela while doing construction. I'm curious about the stamp on the front. It says 905 or 906. Is that from the mint or was that something done later? Does it increase or decrease the value?
This would be a real 1853 1 Dollar https://www.ngccoin.com/coin-explorer/gold-dollars-pscid-54/1853-g1-ms-coinid-17521
I don't think the 905/6 on the front is a date though. I'm just trying to identify what that number is doing there
Maybe it is fake. That might explain why it's in such a weird part of the world to reach in that time period
Definitely not a real coin. It looks like it has two dates on it... 1906 and 1853. However, it does look like real gold. If it really is gold, I suspect it’s some sort of token. Most fake gold coins are made of another golden metal, such as bronze, or contain only a thin coating of gold over a non-precious metal core. Unlike most other fakes, your coin has the appearance of real gold. Try weighing it or doing a specific gravity test.
