    Just a thought:
If the will stated that he was to get the coins, why didn't the attorney hand them over?
Wouldn't it be even funnier if the wrapper said 1916 D Merc dimes and inside were 50 clad Roosies.
She left him $1.50 and used an old wrapper.

Sorry about your grandmother. I don't think leaving them with the lawyer is a good idea. You probably should send them to be slabbed and authenticated. I'd send them one at a time. The extra cost is worth not losing the whole roll.

Kinda strange pupa hasnt posted again to prove otherwise or to answer questions. I'm doubting this story myself.

It reminds me of the story of a football fan who got a ticket to the big college final but when he got to the stadium found that his seats were terrible; way up in a corner. He looked around and spotted an empty seat right at the 50 yard line. So he made his way to the empty seat and asked the man sitting next to the empty seat if it were taken.

"Nope" the man replied. "You can sit there".

The fan asked "Why is such a great seat available?"

The man answered, "My wife and I always had season tickets, but she died, so her seat is vacant."

The fan asked "Isn't there a friend or a member of your family who would want the seat?"

The man answered, "They're all at the funeral."

I thought Denver only minted winged Liberty dimes in 1916. The Barbers were minted in Philly and Frisco. Que no?

Yep; Denver only minted the winged Liberty dimes that year. Philadelphia and San Francisco minted both Barber and winged Liberty dimes in 1916.

This thread is just crazy. I too am wondering where the thread starter is. I don't want to judge him or speculate about if he's telling the truth, or about the authenticity of th coins. I just want to know (like someone else already asked) what condition are these mercs in? At the very least, thats one heck of a payday. But if they're unc, thats a small fortune!

    Pupa,

My condolences on the loss of your grandmother. I know how it is to lose a family member.

We all grieve differently. Some grieve quietly while others are more vocal in their grief. I am concerned that you are taking your grandmother's death way too hard. I know it may not seem like it right now but in a few months or years your heart will hopefully have healed enough that you will be able to talk about your dearly departed grandmother without becoming so emotional.

Take a little comfort in the fact that your grandmother left you some potentially valuable coins. I know the coins and the money they will bring cannot take the place of your grandmother but you should take a little solice in that bequest. I'm sure your grandmother would not like to see you crying over her death as you are; I would bet that she would rather see you smile when you think of her and the items she left you in her will.

I know it will be hard - very hard - but your family needs you to be strong during this tough time. I'm sure you will never forget her but as time passes the pain of your grandmother's loss will slowly fade. Time heals all wounds.

Exactly my thoughts - some of the posted comments are in poor taste IMO.

however, you cant blame people for doubting, especially something like this.
if its true, it means he automatically has 50 out of the 264,000 minted! lol
    or rouned up, .02%!!!
