I`m asking on behalf of someone else on the Antiques forum.

Is this NGC slab genuine, its damaged and no grade is assigned.
I undestand members can check the seriel number against the NGC database.

Looks like the took the coin out of the slab and flipped it around.. Strange.

I just looked and noticed they removed it from the slab and put it back the wrong way.
I thought these slabs were more robust than this.

physics-fan3.14 You got any more of them.... prooflikes?

Well clearly the slab didn't survive this...

And, you can break these slabs with a few determined thwacks of a hammer. Some people prefer their coins to be in the slabs, some people prefer to get rid of the plastic and display their coins in other ways.

This is exactly the type of coin that doesn't need to be in a slab, unless you *really* care that it came from the El Cazador.

Its not mine, the person bought it already damaged.
I don`t have any slabbed coins and never will.

    Interesting...

I suspect there is enough detail in the NGC before shot and the after pic to forensically identify that it's the same coin. As such, NGC might be willing to reslab it. You would have to contact customer service and ask.

If they won't, the pedigree to the El Cazador wreck is lost and all you have is a genuine coin with shipwreck effect.

NGC certified shipwreck 8 reales, in undamaged slabs, sell for quite a bit more.
