I received my uncirculated dollar sets. They are sealed in a plastic like wrap, around something like a cardboard 45 record sleeve. I wish you could view the coins without opening up the sealed plastic.

My concern was that i would lower the value of the set by breaking the seal. I've noted that sealed sets sell at a premium in most cases. It would be nice if the mint packaged coins so you did'nt have to break the seal to view them. Sort of like they did with the proof sets. The early flatpacks could'nt be viewed(unless you opened the envelope), then they went to the clear sealed proof sets. Packaging is probably getting expensive, they must have decided to use these cardboard slips to keep the prices down on the sets.

If you're talking about the same set I got (all 8 uncirculated Presidential dollars) they are in plastic capsules that are raised up above the cardboard, so you can see the edge as well as both sides without removing them. The edges can be seen much more easily than in the presidential proof set holders.

I'm taking mine apart anyway to put the coins in albums.

so you bought the set hoping it will increase in value to sell it downthe road for a profit?

its ok if your answer is yes, if so, it dont matter what the coins look like, right?

if you bought the set like i did, to enjoy the coin - open it, it will be the only way you will be able to enjoy them. Sure, you can leave the set sealed and look at what the coins 'should' look lik on the mints site ... but there is NOTHING that says your soinc will look just like those. Each coin has its own 'personality' :) i would say if you bought it as a collectible... open it, enjoy the coins you bought.
