Glad you like the new site. I'm sure glad everything went as smoothly as it did in the transition from the old VAMWorld. There are going to be some potholes in the road for a bit, I'm sure, but the platforms for both the message boards and the wiki are much better than what we had.
It's some amazon3 website and may be easier to just google it. Still, here you go.... http://ec2-13-58-222-16.us-east-2.compute.amazonaws.com/wiki/Main_Page
That was really the reason I suggested googling it; I thought you (and others) may be hesitant if I just posted the link. It works for me and I've had no issues.
Yes, i had NO trouble finding it and found it to be user friendly. The only issue i had (which is no big deal really) i USED to be able to google the specific date/mm i wanted and google search would bring it right to the top. Now i have to bring up the site then click the Morgan Vams by date on the left hand side of the page. So it takes me about 10 seconds longer to Vam...... You'll have that on these big damn projects. Beautifully executed Mr Baumgart !!
For what it may be worth.... It reached the point on the old site that I had to use google to locate the pages for individual date/mints. For whatever reason the "VAMs by date" option and the date/mint link chart simply wouldn't work, at least using mobile. It does now and makes using the site much easier and more enjoyable.
The vamworld.com domain has been redirected, so www.vamworld.com will get you to the Wiki, and www.vamworld.com/forum will get you to the message board. Each has a link to the other. Eventually, Google's spider bots will index the entire wiki like they did the old one. There's also a search box at the top of the wiki. In that box, if you type, "1883-O VAMs", it will immediately go to the list of 1883-O VAMs. Likewise for other dates. One of the features I really like about the new wiki platform is the ability to set up a neatly formatted photo gallery easily. If you go to the 1878 VAM 9 page, you'll see the main and secondary pick-up photos have been segregated into two galleries. Click any image to go to the full-size version. Also, the full-coin photos are in a slideshow gallery, so you can go forward and backward through these. If you click on the little mountain photo icon between the arrows, it toggles thumbnails of the slideshow. The result is a page that is much cleaner than on the old wiki. Only a couple pages have been edited to do this. The rest were automatically translated by some scripts I wrote. The contents section at the top is automatically generated by the framework and can be used to jump to various sections. Have fun, and let me know of feedback you have.
One of my main goals was to improve the user experience for the casual user. Getting frustrated by large menus or a large pile photos is no fun for someone just trying to become familiar with VAMs. The old VAMs by date table was always a problem on phones. I added a "VAMs by Date - Mobile" option to the old wiki that solved this with drop-down menus.
Thanks for the info! Too bad I didn't notice that option back when it would've been helpful, but is what I get for not looking. Although not new to VAMs I would certainly be considered a casual user at this point, and while I haven't yet totally explored the new site, thus far everything has worked well. Your efforts are certainly appreciated!
@messydesk, Thank you for all your work on this massive project! Working on that and preparing for the WFoM and other shows must have been daunting. Thank you.
