First I'd like to thank lakebreeze for posting a wonderful item by this seller. Now here's another quality slabbed coin by them. PLEASE look at the enhanced pics provided and see if you think this coin merits the grade. http://cgi.ebay.com/1878-MORGAN-DOL...0226296QQihZ013QQcategoryZ39465QQcmdZViewItem Now I know I CERTAINLY do not agree with this grade. I've seen busy highways with less potholes and better luster. Okay now note where the seller is from then look at this auction. http://cgi.ebay.com/SNGA-COIN-GRADI...498198QQihZ013QQcategoryZ149945QQcmdZViewItem WOW! They have an inline to SNGS as a registered dealer! So Blue Creek Coin Company of Calera, Alabama can offer us not just coins but reduced slabbing fees? Okay, Soooo I googled sngrading.com and here's the first thing I came up with. "BLUE CREEK COINS, Calera, AL, Business" Of course I checked out the website here: http://sngrading.com/ I couldn't believe it! The grading company is from the same town in Alabama! PO boxes are different though so it must be a coincidence right? Lots of links here folks. Please check them out and tell me what you think. clembo
Looks like you've done a nice piece of detective work. Sadly, this is not the only instance of such an outfit. Just another to add to the list of scams, as I see nothing illegal in any of it....Mike
I just love the little yellow flower. Must be coincidence, thats where the coinworld logo would be! LOL
Calera, AL is the fastest growing city in the fastest growing county in the state of Alabama. It boasts an unemployment rate of 2.6%, a rate most other cities would kill to have. The fact that both companies are from the same city lets us know why they are Authorized Dealers for SNGA and nothing more. If you read the listing you'd see that the 'cute little flower' is actually a sun, SNGA's logo. It is painted on the inside of the slab and and if there was a coin world logo in that corner it would still be visable, which it is not.
The market spoke And told him it was worth about vf to ef! ($26).Have been seeing this stuff around occassionally; notice some of his other auctions..Particularly #'s 230157044914 and230152279008.. Are these sideways ads for his stuff or what? Well he claims to be an ANA member so what do you other ANA members think about his way of doing business?
I personally don't agree with the grade. I don't even know if it's MS from the pics but it may be if it was a weak strike, check the eagles breast feathers. As far as DMPL from what I see that's just total nonsense. I would grade AU-58 or 55 dipped.http://www.coinpage.com/coin-image-3411.htm
nice work clembo!!! just another teenager with too much time on his hands while he fails middle school for the seventh straight year out to make a buck while ruining a legit hobby practice. isnt it still legal to cause bodily harm by sub sonic flying projectiles (shoot) to a person for lesser evils? (yes i am joking... a wee bit) Does Ebay now need to prevent any assigned grade from these folks from also appearing in pictures? I know they cant claim it in the body, which still does happen, but must Ebay also move to claims in pictures as well?
Big Bill, I hate to inform you of this but you're losing people on every post. It will only get worse. The coin in the auction I originally shared is NO WHERE near an MS65DMPL. If you truly believe this and have actually been collecting for 55 years you have been horribly mislead for 55 years. That's all there is to it. Great to know that Calera is doing so well in these times if that is the case. I don't really see the connection between that and Calera being the sudden "coin mecca" of the world. Now for my disclaimers if you turn out to be "Mr. SNGA." Grading is subjective and based on opinions. Got that? So this is my opinion. Now here is my opinion. The "grading" of that coin ranks right up there with an SGS graded coin (who in my opinion) terribly over grades coins to sell to the uninformed. I came in with an open mind on a different thread then you revived this one. Yep, really jogged my memory and shut the door on my mind. It was open and slammed shut. Unless I see some real grading it will remain that way. clembo
This is just an obvious intentional ripoff artist preying on newbies and those less informed. As I stated in another thread WITHOUT mentioning the grading at all, this seller REAKS of scam artist, outright intentional theivery. 10 day return policy begins when auction ends. This is a common tactic crooks use to cheat you out of your return policy. They encourage a fast payment, but they say they ship fast, but this is usually never the case. They ship first class, which from AL could take 5 business days each way in some cases. This vitually eliminates the return policy. This return policy is a scam !!!!!! They charge a 15% restocking fee which is outright criminal. Only the lowest of pondscum use this method to discourage whatever return policy they claim to have. Now, the grading. While they seem to have a better selection of numbered inserts than does SGS, the grading is outright intentional misrepresentation. Grading is subjective to a point. There are guidelines in all markets, and in the case of this seller, these guidlines are completely ignored. The seller states they are not allowed to mention a numerical grade. Rely on the pictures WITH THE OVERGRADED number insert. This is a sideway around the policy and done intentionally to mislead buyer to maybe look at a price guide. In my opinion, this seller reaks. Bottom of the barrell snakeoil salesmen using predatory methods to steal money from the uninformed. This seller is the worst of the worst type of ebay sellers, the ones trying to rip you off with a smile on their face. Thank you Clembo for bringing this to the attention of all the collectors here, job well done again !!! This seller claims to be an ANA member, if that is the case, they will be reported to the ANA by myself and I encourage others to do so as well.
http://ads.auctionads.com/pagead/li...0226296QQihZ013QQcategoryZ39465QQcmdZViewItem nice au coin. Oops, I mean MS-65 DMPL, which apparently translates as AU-50, cleaned. DMPL= Dumb Morgan Probably Lifeless".
WOW! Caldera, AL Estimated population in July 2006: 8,329 Land area 12.9 square miles That's one HUGE town! Must be that Caldera, AL is the SNGA coin grading and seller's capitol of the world and one of the leaders for employment. OK gang you've only discussed SNGA in Caldera, AL and Blue Creek Coins. We need not forget there are 2 other e-Bay sellers which are NOT companies in my opinion doing SNGA e-Bay sells out of Caldera, AL. Those are also listed on SNGA's website. Blue Creek Coins ... www.blue-creek-coins.net or on eBay blue-creek-coins Trademark Jewelry & Coins Inc.... on eBay trademark-jewelry-n-coins Ms. Lucy's Southern Mercantile ... on eBay ms-lucys-so-mercantile Could these be a family run business? None of these "Companies" are listed as a business or company in Caldera, AL. These are individual e-Bay sellers doing business aparently only on e-bay (exception of www.blue-creek-coins.net) from my search. From all of the SNGA coins I've seen listed and looked at on e-Bay, all look well circulated to me and NONE should be MS anything. MY OPINION and grading is subjective! One NEWBIE to another! P.S. Doing an Alabama Secretary of State search for businesses, Noting is found for; Dan Talman Southern Numismatic Grading Authority SGNA In any full or shortened search
Very strange can not find any Dan Talman living in Al. on any of my serch engine sites can only find one in NC and CA. You can contact the Post Office where the PO Box is and because they do biz with the public you can get there real address
