On a lively thread, the vast majority of us will not be the first responder.

I chip in my thoughts / opinions regardless of prior posts.

In fact, if there's a well defined concensus, and folks mostly agree, I rarely bother because I'm not adding anything by agreeing with prior posts.

I always welcome critique on my grading opinions - how else can I learn ?

i dont wait. Right, wrong, or way out in left field ... i will post a comment. Sometimes it is an answer to a question, sometimes just a comment. On occaisions, i will offer a comment for no other reason then to let the OP know that someone has read the post. Some folks will write a post and never get an response...

tear an first responder to shreads ... now, that isnt nice :D

We've all got you adelv_unegv on a list. No one is allowed to post after you've responded. No reason. We're just messing with your heads.

I never even gave this a thought. If I see a post that interest me, I respond if I have time. If I come accross a post with many responses, I still may throw in my 2 cents. If I see a post and some of the responses are like that book War and Piece, I just pass on the entire post. That is the only thing that tunrs me off. Someone that dribbles on and on and on and on and on and on andddddddddddddddd

Ah, yes. I see. I suspect that's half the trouble for me right there. Communication errors. There just isn't a substitute for vocal inflection. And smilies require running javascript.

As you can see, with being about the 20th person to post on this topic, I'm usually not a first responder. Guess I like to see where the conversation goes before jumping in, or taking that first brave stab at a question.

Well as a moderator on another forum I learned not to be shy. I will post first if given the opportunity and I have something useful to post. This forum is a little different in the other in the simple fact there are experts that seem to be here 24/7, and I am not. I also do not view every post or thread - so sometimes I miss posts. Sigh - as you can see I just found this one. I was too busy finding something to bid on at teletrade - got to spend my $50.

I resond if and when I have something I feel I want to contribute, that in my mind actually contributes something to the discussion. I try to avoid repeating myself, or anyone else. If I have no interest in what's being discussed in the post, or what I have to say has already been said, or I just don't have anything to add, I won't bother. Whether or not I post has nothing to do with how much has already been posted in the thread (except to the degree that a thread with many posts may be more likely to have already covered anything I would have added anyway).

Personally I think all message boards on any topic would be much improved if everyone followed such a rule.

Sometimes I'll be the first to comment. But mostly just lurk. There seems to be enough knowledge on this forum and someone will answer soon enough. And yes it is pathetic how sarcastic some human beings can be toward one another. The way I see it we are all equal members here and everyone has the right to post an opinion. But it can be done without sounding like a know it all.

I chalk sarcastic people, bullies, greater than thou people, up to insecurity or an unrealistically inflated sense of self worth...:)

I kid alot, it does not go online like in person, humor does not translate well sometimes, but I will usually give my opinion when I see the thread, grading included.

I know you all are glad Im back on my feet and not sick anymore, I was posting way too much, sometimes better to sit back and watch rather than think while typing.....

I don't mind being first when it happens. Sometimes I prefer being first in order to test my knowledge against what I know will be responses from folks far more expert than I am. This isn't a very threatening forum and there is no reason not to post. I'm here to learn.

It just depends on how much interest I have in or how strongly I feel about a certain topic.
