    CoinGal,

You can take the coins to Larry Briggs at the SEGS tables and he will tell you whether they are authentic or not and also give you a value for the coins! You can then take the coins to the PCGS or NGC tables and submit them (of course they won't authenticate or grade them if they have been cleaned or have somewhat significant damage on them). When you fill out the submission forms, you must enter a value of the coins (this is for your protection). Once you are finished and you pay the fee and submit the coins to either TPG (once they take physical possession of the coins), they are responsible for any losses due to theft, damage, loss of the coins. In other words, the value of the coins that is entered on the submission form (and I am sure that they will review the values you enter), is the amount that they are supposed to reimburse you, if anything happens to the coins while in their possession.

If I am wrong about any of the above, will someone please post any corrections needed?????

Your comments are accurate, as usual.
However, I think that her concern is that th eTPG'ers will switch the real coin for a fake.
No amount of insurance will cover that.

Actually there is another possibility, which is a far greater likelihood - the coins were never graded by a "top tier TPG" but were in fact counterfeit coins in counterfeit holders. Quite a few have turned up on Ebay recently. Here is a link to an interesting PCGS forum thread on the topic, in case you haven't seen it:

Thanks Treas! I understand her concern but I don't think she has any worries if she submits them to either PCGS or NGC! Being the top two TPG'ers, they don't need that kind of scandal...especially at such a large Coin Show. Besides, she should already have detailed pictures of the coins using a Digital Camera and a QX3or QX5 if possible for documentation in case the coins are lost, stolen or switched. If she takes the coins to Larry Briggs for determining if they are authentic (if in fact they are) before grading, then takes them back to Larry once she gets them back, I am sure that he will verify if they are the same coins or not.
