Girlfriend did it again, I stopped by the bank on the way home picked up 40 rolls of nickels and 40 rolls of pennies, I got 3 wheats, a 1935,1947-d and a 1958-d. Well Miss show off pulls out another buffalo nickel, cant tell the date very well, looks like 193?. So thats 2 for her this week. Till next hunt, good luck to everyone.

HOLA! So I'm searching some old bank rolls of Lincolns. No major dates yet but there are a lot of brilliant flashy red 56-D and 58s. Registry quality. Found 1 D over Shadow D so far.

    Hello everyone, first post.

Went through 2 boxes of cents twice in a couple days.

    1st 2 boxes yielded

    8 Canadian pennies

    Wheats
    1927
    1930 D
    1941 (2)
    1945 (3)
    1946 D
    1951 D (2)
    1952 D
    1954 D
    1957 D (3)
    1958 D (4)

    2nd set of boxes yielded

    10 Canadian Pennies

    1944
    1946 D
    1947 S
    1949 D
    1958 D

I've also have a couple questions. First does everyone get this many canadian cents in their rolls? I live in Iowa and occasionally get one in my change but as you can see I got almost as many of them as wheats. Second, are there books available for canadian cents? I figured since I was finding so many of them I'd see just how complete a collection I can get from rolls. Google yielded nothing for canadian cents. Third I did this in a limited capacity as a kid but its been years and I'm obviously able to deal with larger amounts of coins, should I find a 2nd bank to return my searched coins to? My current bank has 3 branches in town, would I be ok picking them up from one branch and returning them to another? Or do you think the branches will be sending them back and forth to each other? Also is there a site or a book that is recommended for spotting error coins? Everyone talks about them but I have no idea where to start. I feel like I'm missing out in that respect. Sorry, lots of questions. Thanks in advance.

Welcome, and I don't get nearly that number of Canadian cents.
Also, yes, I'd dump the coins at another bank, just so that you don't keep re-searching the same rolls.
    Good luck.

Actually with Cents or Nickels, spend them in roll form. Most places are thankful for the change.

A few places may get snippy or pick about them, but most gave me no problems.

That way they will go into people change bins at homes and never make it back to the bank for you to research.

    Ok. Here goes!

Error coins - especially pennies. Go to www.copercoins.com. That'll get you started and keep you busy for a long time!

Getting Canadian cents is hit and miss for me. I can go months without getting one in a roll (I only do 2-3 rolls at a time every week or so) and then like yesterday, I found 3 Canadian cents in just four rolls.

As far as "books" for Canadian cents, I assume you're talking about folders or albums. I've looked a little bit and can't really find anything cheap such as the Whitman blue folders out there. I hate to spend $10 on an album that will hold pennies that are worth 70 cents.

I will probably end up getting the "blank" cents Whitman Folder for a couple of bucks. Canadian pennies are easy since there's only one for each year in most cases.

Unfortunately, the Canadian pennies you find are probably not going to be worth much. Here's a link I use. I have NO idea if it's accurate, but it gives a good idea of what to look out for:

    www.calgarycoin.com/modern/cdcent.htm

    Good Luck!.

Pocket Change - look for these books for your CDN cents - www.unitradeassoc.com - but you'd have to contact them to find a dealer in the US.

I usually find as many canadian pennies as I do wheats. They are what gives me hope that I will find my other two 43 Steel cents from roll searching (eventually).

Thanks for the answers everyone. Trying to decide if i want to fork over the money for a Canadian folder. Searched another 2 boxes of cents today with great success.

    10 Canadian again :)

    Wheats
    1925
    1935
    1939
    1942 D
    1944
    1945
    1945 D
    1948 (2)
    1949
    1950 D
    1951 D
    1953
    1953 D
    1953 S
    1955 D
    1956 D (2)

Was able to fill 11 empty slots in my folder.

And on top of that I found my first indian head cent. 1901

Planning on getting another couple boxes of cents tomorrow and maybe a box of nickels as well.

its hard to find whitman canadian cent books becuase whitman and the royal mint had a contract with the producing of books. a few years ago the contract expired and no more books were made. i've heard this a few times, most likly true.

I did $20 in cents this weekend.

Pickings were slim this time. If you search previous posts, i've pulled 20-30 wheats out of $20 of cents before.

    This time

    1944
    1944
    1945
    1946
    1957
    1957-D
    1957-D
    1957-D
    1958

And about twice as many canadian cents :(

Anyone else get excited to see the reverse of a wheat after they open a roll only to flip it over and see a date with 195X on it?? I actually get a little disappointed. I like seeing dates from the 40's and earlier.

Yikes, talk about getting skunked.. Here are my totals for my last 16 boxes of halves:

    0 - 90%
    12 - 40%
    5 - Proofs
    9 - 1987 halves (5-D, 4-P)
    10 - 2002+

Here's hoping the pickings get better real soon...

PocketChange, thanks for the link about the different Canadian cents out there! Living in Maine, I get over 50 Canadian cents in every $50 worth of cents, so that I'm up to around $80 worth of Canadians now, and haven't yet done a thing with any of them...

Hm, and I was starting to think that my results were bad - here are my totals from the last 17 boxes of halves:

    4 - 90% (one a Franklin)
    18 - 40%
    4 - Proofs
    1 - Commemorative (Atlanta Olympics - Soccer)
    0 - 1987
    18 - 2002+

    I got LUCKY!

Yesterday, I went to a coin shop I usually don't go to. He had a bunch of used Whitman blue folders. Eureka! He had a Canadian Small Cent 1920 - Date for only 25 cents!!! According to him, these haven't been made for years. In fact, the last printed date in the album is 1959 with a bunch of blank holes
