I found this 1967 SMS Doubled die Roosevelt Dime and I would like to know who would be the best and most reputable to attribute this new discovery ? P.s. Oh and please excuse the cracked phone screen . Someone said that these were great photos on my other phone . LOL
Well.... If Jefferson was on that dime I would say you have something. This particular president is Roosevelt..... And personally speaking, if it takes this much magnification to reveal a potential error.... Then is it really an error?
Very good point my dear lad . However since I've come to learn that there are tons of MD and DDD lovers in coin talk I personally just like to make the doubling on every coin very clear for less debate and confuse ... And thank you for alerting me to that typo I appreciate that . LOL
So with all the clear and crisp raised doubling that we see here what part of doubling do you think your seeing friend ?
Hopefully this doubled die coin that has the same form of doubling on my coin that I found on Wexler can help you see the strike that I see if the ear and nose isn't a dead giveaway
By saying that CT has many of MD and DDD lovers your implying that all of the people responding don’t bother taking the time to look at the coin and automatically give this response. As you read the posts from people asking about doubled dies, it is easy to tell that the vast majority are newer collectors and don’t have a lot of knowledge of the minting or die making process. Without this knowledge and the experience of looking at lots of coins, it’s not too difficult to expect most of the examples to be MD or DDD, since these are much more prevalent. This is why there are so many MD and DDD responses. MD and DDD lovers? My [rear end] I guarantee that if I were to reply that a true doubled die coin has MD and am wrong, I would be corrected very quickly To answer your original question. Both Variety Vista and Wexler provide info on their sites regarding attribution and discovery coins.
Except the ear and nose your coin shows evident die deterioration and MD. Are you saying that you are also infact a MD and DDD lover? As for the ear and nose, The doubling is much lower than the rest of the device, this is usually the result of DDD. I am not sure that your photos are conclusive enough to say DDO.
All I see is MD and some DDD. Note how the devices are decreased in size, rather than increased. Here is a pic that shows the same type of doubling (Machine Doubling). Credit: Coop @ CCF
Well I see no sense in making an argument of it ... Especially since we are all very much entitled to our opinions . So thanks for the input ... And to Oldhoopster . You are certainly one very sharp and very perceptive Oldhoopster indeed . Infact to be totally honest I honestly thought that my little comment would fly by totally undetected and so my hat must come off to you . LOL
I believe this is the first time I have seen one of his photos on this site. I love the way coop does his layouts on his pics. It makes it really easy to see what he is talking about.
I’m pleased that I can meet your required level of resourcefulness. I imagine it must be boring when nobody notices your subtle comments to the CT community. Looking forward to having your insightful wisdom on here. All of those MD/DDD lovers better watch out. And the Plated Cent and Environmental Damage lovers better be careful as well (you guys know who you are)
Yes. I noticed that images showing the difference between MD, DD, and DDD are rarely posted here, and decided to post a few of coop's images here to help out. They are super helpful and easy to understand for new collectors. Might even create a "MD vs DD vs DDD quiz" someday here.
