How many of you remember these 'coins'? They were introduced to us about 50 years ago, and started many a young person (and many not-so-young persons) with a desire to "collect them all!", the beginning of becoming a coin collector.
They must have been a really big deal back in the day! I see a few of them from time to time in the antique shops near me. Nice folder or presentation cases and all!
Welcome to CT!! I like these kinds of medals. They combine my love of Coin and Gas and Oil memorabilia collecting. Don't have one from that series though. This was kind of a fad back in the late 60's through mid 70's. Several different Oil companies had them made. They usually had nice cardboard displays with empty holes to fill. Had to spend a certain amount in gas to get them sort of thing. Here is one from my collection from the Husky Oil Company from 1970.
Upon closer examination, I noticed that (on the car side of the coin) there is a date with copyright symbol, 1968, AND what appears to me to be the facility that made these 'coins' ... isn't that the Franklin Mint symbol?
I'm struggling to understand the meaning of your question. If you, in fact, are 'curious' about my avatar (which I chose to match my 'curious' tag), then let's just ASSume that it's a 'jenny' that is looking for answers. Are you an athletic 'supporter'?
