I generally sell low (less than $100) and mid-value ($100 to $500) items on eBay. eBay is a PITA but works often enough to merit trying each item at least once. Occasionally I'll try to sell the same material to dealers at coin shows. Results are mixed and often disappointing. But it's less work and results are immediate. I'm now considering consigning some mid-value items to Great Collections. GC is great for common, mid value coinage. They take adequate pictures, and payment arrives promptly. It sounds like, for the material you are selling, GC is a good choice. GC is sometimes not the most popular sight, so you won't get as much action as Heritage - but GC is fast, reliable, and communicates well. I've sold many coins through GC, and I've always been pleased (but, remember, you have to choose the material properly). GC is not the place to sell foreign coins, rare coins, specialized collections (with varieties and such). GC is the place to sell collector level common coins in the mid price range.
My emphasis on "varieties". I read that to include such things as Overton, Browning and other such varieties. That's not good for what I was thinking of consigning to them.
If they are common R1, R2, R3 coins, then it won't make a huge difference. But if you're expecting a premium for rare varieties, then GC is probably not your best bet. You will be better off sending to a specialist dealer like Sheridan Downey for the Overtons, for example.
Ive sold about $30k worth of coins through GC ranging from $35 to over $6k. I give them an A+ and I especially like how the owner, Ian, responds to all of my emails within a day or so.
