Canadian Half Cent

    I'm not up on Canadian customs rules, but if it is all current money most countries wouldn't impose any duty.

    However, if he is so willing to cheat the Canadian government, what assurance do you have that he isn't equally willing to cheat you?

    Half cents were made, I believe, prior to the creation of the Dominion of Canada in the 1860's, primarily for circulation in the maritime provinces. Indeed, the coins were actually struck not in the name of Canada, but in the names of the provinces. (New Brunswick, Newfoundland, etc). They're not worth too much, but the designs are wonderful.

    I just dont see why they deserve money for that. Just because it travels across a border, it makes no sense to me.

    Well whether or not they deserve it is arguable I guess. What gives them the right is national sovereignty.
