just need to know if I am at all correct. on the obverse please see the letters EL AND OTHER less clear to see lettering. on reverse please see what I think is the Canadian leaf under the letter A and note it goes thru memorial and see displacement of e pluribus Unum and states.

what's the verdict and if it is what do I do with it? PHOTO_20180810_010826.jpg PHOTO_20180810_010712.jpg PHOTO_20180810_010826.jpg PHOTO_20180810_010712.jpg

I believe it's a normal cent that has had a hard life.

agreed on hard life. however look how the design goes UNDER THE A in America and goes thru the memorial. and look at the others signs of possibly being printed on top of another coin

    Damaged Cent

Coins are never printed. They are minted/struck.. Paper currency is printed.

What you are seeing under the A is incuse, or set into the coin. If it were as you think, the item you are seeing would be in relief, like the design in the reverse of the Lincoln cent. It is damage, either through use or intent. This cent was not minted over another already minted coin.

A Canadian planchet is just a copper blank.
Except for a slight difference in weight (1964 Canadian cent 3.24g 1964 US cent 3.11g. Did it weigh heavy?)
there would be no way to tell if a cent was minted on a Canadian planchet. Are you saying your damaged cent was struck over a Canadian cent? The US doesn't mint coins for Canada, someone tossed a Canadian cent in the hopper at the mint 54 years ago and you just happen to discover it in your pocket change?
These foreign planchet You Tube videos need to mention that this is a 1 in a billions type thing, and no, you don't have a coin minted on a foreign planchet in your change jar.

The most disturbing thing about this whole thread is you and Bellman knowing the Pokémon stuff. I vaguely remember my kids talking about a Level 33 Jiggly-Puff at one point but decided not to ask about the details

what if it is the one in a million chance?
just look at it again..yes I meant struck on a Canadian cent. or over a Canadian cent. i honestly believe the lead edge and the EL is Elizabeth and i believe it is possible. not likely but very possible. I would like to say even as the kitty cat face it looks very similar to the edge of the lead and it doesn't have to be aligned. notice please the leaf edge goes completely under the letter a... meaning the a was printed over the image or damage as it were.

I had only one kid, but I was in a relationship with a woman whose son was right at the "sweet spot" for a Pokémon obsession. I learned a lot. That young man is now a Ph.D. in medical nanotechnology. One of the Pittsburgh schools.

    No. I don't think so.
You would see more raised detail and on both sides.
As stated.. What you see is incused so it's damage.

If this was a Canadian Planchet, it would not have any "stampings" on it. Thus it would be unidentifiable.

If this was a Canadian coin put in a US Mint press, you first should be able to find a Canadian Cent that had the exact markings you have identified in the *exact* same locations.

You would also be able to see a lot more Canadian Cent identifiers on it.

If you did find a Canadian Cent with these same markings in the same location, you could them overlay the two images to show the direct correlation between the two.

Does it weigh 3.24 grams? That's the first thing to do if you suspect if it was stuck over a Canadian cent. I'm going to go out on a limb and say it weighs 3.00- 3.10 grams.
Copper is relatively soft. All kinds of designs, letters, anything can become imprinted (or even raised) on a coin as damaged as this from a million different sources.

Yes, true. But incuse is far more common.

it weighs 3.21 grams I have no clue what the heck that means. i am almost positive the scale used was correct. the head stands a lot higher in relief and i cannot find a vdb dunno if that means anything. this coin belongs to.someone else. i found it and he is taking it to a dealer. i will let you know if anything comes of it. i may never know. don't know the person very well. but if it does come back interesting
well.. i think it will. because that edge that looks like part of the Canadian leaf which looks.like a Pokemon.
    lol...

well it is obviously under the last A in America. the e pluribus Unum is all messed up... can't find a vdb... the top has the letters EL like Elizabeth but off center... do maybe someone bought copper blanks... and in those blanks maybe some Canadian coins which were error coins or something got tossed in. i swear the coin itself does not look damaged like you see coins with deep grooves... or lines... it just looks like a quarter then off and slightly off center Canadian coin underneath and well that's what I think it is. i could be wrong. but it was cool to think it even if i am wrong.
