V coins m-a shops and forum ancient coins are a good place to start. Maybe ebay but there some fakes there so wait til you get more experience to buy from that outlet. Some of the v coins dealers also have stores on ebay, which mostly should be safe. Look for lifetime guarantees of authenticity by the dealer. Another source is Frank Robinson (not the baseball player) auctions at fsrcoin.com. You can sign up for his email list and you will be notified of auctions by email.

Thank you I will check the 2 you mentioned out and yeah I wouldn't buy ancients on ebay unless its from an actual shop.

It's smart to stay away from Ebay as a beginner, but I will say we have many CT members whom I trust that sell on Ebay. Get to know some of the more trusted sellers and you should do okay.

Nice coin and welcome. You will find plenty of folks here with interesting and different paths in ancient coins.

Thanks @Adam95 , I call this my oxymoron coin... a Republican coin with an elephant. The seller's pics are better than mine, below -

Roman Republic, mint Rome, 125 BC, silver denarius
    C. Caecilius Metellus Caprarius – moneyer
Obv. Head of Roma right, wearing Phrygian helmet; below chin, X and behind, ROMA.
Rev. Jupiter, crowned by Victory flying right, in biga of elephants left, holding thunderbolt in left hand and reins in right; in exergue: C. METELLVS.

Insignificant hairline flan cracks, otherwise good EF. Perfectly centred and struck on excellent metal, from fresh exceptional dies, work of a skilled master-engraver. A masterpiece in miniature, lustrous and lightly toned.

I have few coins that jumped up and said BUY ME. This one. The L.SAVF below is another. With a bit of patience you will find some that do the same for you.

Agreed! Great coin to start with!

Here is my first Ancient... I took about 3 months to buy a second one, then minutes for a third. :)

Maximianus Genio Popvli Romani type from the Thessalonica Mint (Δ Officiana), RIC VI 23b.

Great list! I'm familiar with less than half of those! Thank you!
