I will look when I get home to see if there are any known varieties of this coin. But just figured I'd throw this on there until I have time to research. What do y'all think? To me, it almost looks like he has two eyes, ears and the T & Y of Liberty also looked doubled. Rachel
I don't see any doubling either. Are you looking for microscopic doubling ? with the Zincolns be very careful of the split plating which is what LIBERTY seems to have in your photos. http://www.lincolncentsonline.com/miscellaneous.html Split plating occurs on some devices facing the rims on Zinc cents. the copper is just not thick enough for all the "stretching" it has to do and it kinda tears or bunches up in a way. Older pre1982 cents were pucks of copper versus the newer ones are thinly copper plated zinc pucks.
Yeah this isn't split plating that I'm seeing. It's more of a look at the Y in Liberty on the right side on the top. Or even better the top part of the T is there twice.
@RachelRuth I noticed that this topic had no replies for a while to your question so decided I would help out. Pics are a bit too grainy, sharper pics would help. They don't have to be bigger, just sharper. Could be a doubled die or split plating doubling, better pics will help tell the difference. Once you get some good pics, if it's one or the other I can show you how to tell the difference between the two.
Thank you for handling this. There are only so many of threads like this I can handle before getting ignorantly snarky.
I know what you mean....I'm used to handling these on the CCF (another coin forum). I think after a while it just becomes second nature.
