Hello all! First post here. I have amassed a large collection of Matterhorn (the mountain in Switzerland) related silver over the years. Any interest in seeing the rest? I have about.. 40-50 more, not including the coin letters, or tie-in stamps. I have already photographed 90% of them, but if there's interest, I'm wondering how best to show them? I've already started an Instagram account for the images, but I'm going to space them out over time. Anyway, here's a small sample of them. Whatcha think?
I like the first one. I've seen similar reverses before and Love the design. I like people who collect something specific. Like @spirityoda with his bugs.
Hi Matterhorn collector. It is true I have a very focused coin collection. It includes topical/themed "coins with insects", "Coins with hands" "coins with certain stars", and "coins with small coins as the design itself". German States/Baden, toned Canadian 1937-1967 for 50 cents, 25 cents and 10 cents collection. and a large misc. world coin collection. some U.S. coins too. I am really liking your 1st coin both sides. I have some questions. why the matterhorn ? did you climb it ? are you from Switzerland ? I look forward to seeing the rest of your collection. It is so refreshing to see something new here.
I was born in the US, but moved to Switzerland a few years back. The Matterhorn is truly a spectacular mountain to see in person, and I've been to see it multiple times. My best-selling, most-awarded, most-downloaded photograph is of the Matterhorn. I just have a special bond with it. It kind of irks my wife who is from Ticino that I am obsessed with a mountain from Valais
I too am wondering why you selected the Matterhorn as a specific collection. Are you a climber ? Have you been there to see it ? I'm not knocking your taste as these are some beautiful coins and certainly have whetted my quest for more knowledge about your interest and more of your coins. Welcome to CT. Dave
4'478m Not a climber (yet?), but been there multiple times. I'm only a three hour drive, and a train away from it!
Are they all Swiss coins? Or did other countries mint coins with the Matterhorn as well? The coins you show are quite attractive, I would like to see more.
No, not all are Swiss coins. I'd venture a guess that at least half of them are foreign coins with the Matterhorn on them!
Strictly speaking those are medals or bullion pieces but not legal tender coins. Still some very nice designs there. Switzerland issued two Matterhorn coins (same design) in 2004 - one is bimetallic (no silver, 10 fr), and the other one is gold (50 fr). Christian
Hey, that one guy that voted 'no' we should run out of town on a rail...... Welcome to the forum Matterhorn.
