An interesting read for me here as this is the first time I've been on cointalk in a little over a year now I think. Reason why I had stopped is I lost interest in numismatics for awhile and couldn't afford to add to my collection and all. But now that's starting to change. So I might be around more often.
He's not. He's purportedly some sort of policy analyst for a state legislator. There is a HUGE difference between merely reading about the law or watching Law and Order on TV and actually practicing it.
Not to toss a hand grenade into this thread, but THIS is exactly why people leave IMHO. While there are many talented and knowledgeable folks here (these people know who they are and tend not to pat themselves on the back), their contributions are diluted by the utter nonsense and BS that is heralded around as knowledge or divine truth. The illusion of knowledge is very dangerous. As for the quoted post, this is utter nonsense. This is not a court and arcane legal procedure has no relevance to a coin forum save perhaps for the rare discussion of a court case that actually involves coins. Your discussion is also incredibly shortsighted. Are we talking facts, interpretation of rules, or the application of the rules to the facts?
The last thing that I’ll add here is that if you get destroyed on CU for misinformation thinking you know everything, it’s time to look in the mirror. That’s where the real heavy weights and experts are posting and someone who thinks they have nothing to learn there well......
CU is no joke, which is why I've started posting there a lot more recently. On the flip side there is CCF (I believe you're also active there @baseball21 ), where people are literally not allowed to throw insults, even mild ones. CT is the halfway point, which kind of puts it in a unique place. The people that can't handle insults and arguments go to CCF. The ones that like savagery and accuracy go to CU. What does that leave for CT?
I'm late with this reply. It took me a while to think of the proper words. It's not Doug or the mods. It's about how folks get treated here. Many new members are not as friendly as those that have been here for a while. I don't have an answer for that. Some just don't care for that and move on to where they feel comfortable.
I'm not. You learn a lot by osmosis working for the Judiciary Committee chairman for 6 years, and being surrounded by lawyers all day. But yes, I have litigated cases, including one before the state Supreme Court, so you have to understand standard of review. That one was de novo.
Just because you don't see it happen, doesn't mean it doesn't happen. It most definitely does happen ! There's a lot that is done that the members do not see. And that's exactly how it is supposed to be.
If I may make ONE slight suggestion - on two different occasions, I had a post taken down and I had no idea which or what I said. Technical question - how difficult is gaining that information? If it's not easy, I'll just adapt.
No, but for my most recent case, our handwriting expert DID stay there. Because I'm NOT a member of the Bar, my cases are limited to those where I can obtain legal standing to be the Plaintiff, and argue them pro se, which I LOVE to do. It's one of my hobbies.
