Yes it is and those look genuine. Still, a drill hole that close to the edge can cause problems. You should try and find a wire wrapped pair for her.

If I had made those, I would have put a metal cap on top where the ring wouldn't put force on contact with the glass, but pass through a hole in the cap. If you notice wear in the future, clear jewelers epoxy can help. Jim

Thanks!. Where do you put the epoxy? ON the entire glass ? or the metal ear hooks near the hole?

I would wait and look for wear first, but as an answer, I would use a cactus spine and only try to put in in the hole itself. this will make it fast, so arrange the glass, loop , and hook in a straight order. Beside of the limitation as some women like them to wiggle a little, I would only do as a last resort, so the glass doesn't crack. The metal loop is likely a Hardness of 6-6.5 and modern glass is about 5.5 , I do not have a figure for ancient glass.
If the ear rings become damaged, you can have similar motiff with iodocrase ( vesusianite) here is one site. It is named because it was found near/in lava flows there, but is probably much older than the obsidian flow. ...But pretty :)
