Hello. I recently was coin roll searching when I found a 1982 D with multiple errors. I need feedback regarding the type of error on this coin. It seems that the coin has an extra D or S repunched on the observed. The coin has serious corrosion not sure if is a broken planchet. Any information will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Sorry but you're just see artifacts from the zinc rot. PMD means post mint damage. Your coin is only worth face value

For the future, remember that a true mint error is a very rare beast. The mint makes billions of coins and catches many of the errors.

The chance of the same coin having multiple errors is multiplicative of the odds.

Can it happen? Sure... we've seen them, but usually as a cascade of events from a single failure.

Well for beginners who are unsure and new to collecting they are errors for this reasons is why we join a forum to seek advise and learn from others. But it seems to me that experience collectors forget when they first started collecting and made many mistakes as well. No one ever was born with the knowledge they had to learn from someone or somewhere. Thank you for your information is very helpful. Have a bless day.

Not all of us, in fact not most... we do expect a certain amount of self-help which is why we frequently redirect to http://error-ref.com/

    I actually understand your position.

One big thing that we see out there are tons and tons of "click bait" advertisements and youtube videos that are just plain wrong.

We even get posters here who post videos of pure totally incorrect junk. So ppl come here with perfectly good cents and think they are errors because they see a video that says they are errors and that they are worth a hundred thousand dollars.

Truthfully I've never thought many things were errors. I've worked with metal for ever in various ways, and I've noticed where we find change: in the car all gunked up, in purses/piles all scratched up, in driveways/parking lots scratched up, in the ground/dirt in art fairs/festivals, etc. To me, it's clearly obvious when picking these up that they were damaged.

I don't understand why ppl think "metal" is 100% indestructible/unscratchable therefore it all must be errors. But I'm sure all those click bait webpages/youtube videos have something to do with it.

You should stick around and look at all the postings in the "Errors" and "What's it worth" pages about Errors that ppl post. You'll then see the position ppl take here of trying to ask questions to ppl of why they think it's an error. We're trying to make ppl think about what they see, and why, sometimes.

I understand you are new. Myself, I am always learning every single day.

If i can give you a couple pieces of advice, it would be these:

    1. For photos, always use the "Full image" option instead of the "thumbnail" option, so photos come out like this already enlarged. It makes viewing coins you want help with so much easier to see.

    2. Some people here have a bit of a snarky personality, but then again context is tough in text. What might be someone just joking around can at times come off sounding much harsher in your head. I would recommend not taking their comments so seriously. Lots of good people here, including Clawcoins.

    3. It is always best to try and look up a term yourself before asking others what it means. But sometimes acronyms (PMD, EAC, FT, IMHO) aren't easy to decipher or find. I had to ask those once just as you did! :)

In all, ask away. People here love demonstrating knowledge and learning. I also recommend to read a lot....a lot!

    Welcome, my friend! ~Joe C.

No one has addressed the apparent S mint mark to the left of the date. I'd like to see some clear, close-up photos of that area. It seems to be the correct size and font for a mint mark. Someone with more knowledge of 1982 pennies needs to post their thoughts.

Zinc Rot. This coin has a lot of corrosion indicating it's been exposed to something nasty. It doesn't take much to break through a plating bubble and start the zinc corroding.

btw, nice Ninja in your avatar. I used to have a 250R and a 500R
then moved on to Ducati ST2 and later a 2001 Honda VFR.

Sweet. I love Ducati my favorite. That is my next dream investment. Since I got tickets my mom got me on lockdown. lol. Pretty soon I am free again and able to hit the streets again. Easier to find parking than driving to the city.

Thank you I am doing a little research on google to learn a little more regarding
True I been watching youtube and I see them finding all type of coins that makes me wonder if it is at all true. Since one of them found an entire roll of wheat pennies from the bank on a $25.00 dollar box of coins. I find that very questionable. I am very lucky if I find one wheat in a penny roll. lol. Others show how you can spot DD and error coins. Since I am not an expert just a beginner I just post what I find on this site and learn from others responses and then I go do a little research on google to start understanding more. Is not as simple people think DD is hard to spot and these others too. Thank you.
