Somebody just put up a 1943 copper 'penny' on eBay. I did some back and forth emailing with the seller and they said they took it into a dealer who confirmed it was 100% real. Think it is just an eBay story? They do have a certificate in the photo. I like to check out 1943 copper cents and 1944 steel cents on eBay occasionally to see what some of the crazy people will pay. Looks like this one was just listed. https://www.ebay.com/itm/-/253797450600?nordt=true&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l10137
I wouldn't touch this at all unless is was slabbed, and maybe not even then. It states PCGS and CAC in the listing, but it's not in a slab. Some fish took the bait. Sad.
and no letter from the dealer stating it's authenticity ? imagine that . actually, looking at all the picture I guess he did ...
Do you guys see anything that looks fake about it? I am used to seeing these (https://www.ebay.com/itm/1943-d-cop....l1313.TR8.TRC2.A0.H0.X1943+copper+penny.TRS0) that look so fake. This one just looks 'different'. I see it just sold, if it is fake, I feel bad for the person who bought it.
Thing is. A true copper struck 1943 is valued in the tens of thousands last I remember looking. Every day here on CT people are asking should they slab the shiny cent they found in their pocket change.... And a cent that held that much potential value somehow escaped the current rabid clutches of the TPG’s?? Not on your life. That’s as bogus as a three dollar bill.
I've been putting coins in my Dansco 7070 over the years...it includes a 1943 copper penny too (fake)! Kinda scary looking. I've got an 1856 FE, 1877 IH, 1943 WC, 1868 2C, 1913 TY2 buffalo nickel, 1916-D Merc, 1862 Seated Lib. $1, 1895-S Morgan, 1927 Peace $1, and 1852-D gold $1. Kinda fun putting together a second type album with all fake coins. All of my fake coins... And my lonely gold page... This is one of my favorite fakes... And my 1943 copper penny...
12 pictures including 5 with the certificate, and he never shows what the certificate actually says. not sure I would trust a coin appraisal from a gem and jewelry appraisal service either.
