Interesting. I thought that was a strange # for a valid coin. Another lesson learned. Thank you.

Starting today: If you get burned in a coin deal your membership in CoinTalk is revoked.

It is time we tighten up things a bit around here.

If this was in the doily PCGS holder, this sample would be in the $200 range. So, they are not with value. You actually did pretty good on this - especially it being a half dollar. Most SAMPLES are dimes, and sometimes quarters.

Better than the biggest “duh” coin moment of my life. Five Benjamin’s I dropped on my dud. Fortunately a generous CT member recently helped me to right that wrong.

Obv nicer than the rev. MS-64?
Almost a $15 coin not including the collectible slab.
Not too bad of a burn.

That slab is catalog # PCGS-50-3-2 and in the first edition of the sample slab book it is listed at $20. Don't know what it lists at in the second edition, that book is at home. You didn't get hurt on this slab, it's probably worth at least what you paid for it.

There are people that collect sample slabs. Some of them are worth hundreds of dollars (although I don't think this is one). As an old green holder sample slab, you might not be as buried as you think.

David Schwager. He also publishes a newsletter about sample slabs. If you are interested I could send you his email address.

That's a good mistake to make.

You did well, even if for a different reason than you thought. Right now those PCGS OGH samples with the Kennedy halves are selling for around $35.

I don't know if you're an idiot or not, but if you are, I think you were a lucky idiot this time.
