Is there something wrong with doing this? If so, I fail to see what the harm is, or whome it would be harming. Please explain.
as far as self slabbers go on ebay, this guy seems to be the best of the bunch. but thats like comparing pig crap to mud, so....
Well, not that I've gotten all the details of the guarantee, but this guy seems to guarantee his grade (he specifically mentions a money back guarantee on overgrading). Rather than most of these other places like SGS which guarantee the authenticity of the coin. So all SGS guarantees is that their MS70 coin is in fact the coin they said it was, not that it's a MS70.
CRAVAT EMPTOR There are two different sellers selling the SNGA coins. Both in Alabama and the same city. Both have very similar auction descriptions and terms. Nextly, ONLY ONE of the sellers makes the SNGA guarantee claim. Trademark Jewelry & Coins Inc. PO Box 867, Calera, AL 35040 SNGA's BUY BACK PLAN SNGA has implemented a Buy-Back Plan to guarantee that people will be satisfied whenever they buy one of their slabbed coins or notes. Their plan calls for refunding all that you've paid for any SNGA Certified coin or note that you feel is over-graded. We would be glad to share the details of this plan if you contact us. 1) Any item we sell may be returned for a refund. No reason is needed. 2) Any coin or note removed from its orignal holder is not returnable for refund - FOR ANY REASON. 3) The item being returned must be in our possession by the 10th day following the end of the auction or there will be ... NO REFUND. NOTE: This is NOT 10 Days after you receive it ... so pay quickly so you will have time to examine the merchandise before the time runs out! Please ask any question you may have prior to bidding, because ... We Charge a 15% Restocking Fee on All Returns ... No Matter What Reason You Have For The Return! Seller's return policy: Item must be returned within: 7 Days Refund will be given as: Money Back Return Policy Details: 1) You may return any item within 10 days from the end of the auction. No reason is required. 2) Any coin, or currency, that is removed from it's original holder is not returnable - FOR ANY REASON. 3) The coin/note must be in our possession by the 10th day following the end of the auction or there will be NO REFUND. Please ask any question you may have prior to bidding, because We Charge a 15% Restocking Fee on All Returns, No Matter What Reason You Have For The Return! No refunds on s/h or ins. Now really read the Blue Creek Coins, PO BOX 778, Calera, AL 35040 descriptions fully. They make this statement in their return policy regarding grading... Seller's return policy: Item must be returned within: 7 Days Refund will be given as: Merchandise Credit Return Policy Details: Any coin, or currency, that is removed from it's original holder is not returnable - FOR ANY REASON. We base our suggested grades on more than 50 years of experience. You may return a coin or note within 10 days from the end of the auction with no reason needed. The coin/note must be in our possession by the 10th day following the end of the auction or there will be NO REFUND. READ THIS!!! 3) The item being returned must be in our possession by the 10th day following the end of the auction or there will be ... NO REFUND. NOTE: This is NOT 10 Days after you receive it ... so pay quickly so you will have time to examine the merchandise before the time runs out! If the auction ends and they take 7 days to mail it to you then your out of luck on any returns. Also, I note that several of the auctions are ending on a Friday evening or Saturday evenings some ending today on Sunday. It's not too likely that these auctions will be mailed out same day. Most likely the following Tuesday. Might take 3 or 4 days for it it arrive to you and if it's on a Saturday when you receive it how many days will it be when they receive it if you mailed it back the following Monday before they receive it.... REMEMBER it must be back in their hand by the 10th day following the auction!!! I do believe if you've paid with PayPay pay they cannot demand a merchandise credit only refund. NOW I ask, who is SNGA? Tradewinds states... WATCH FOR THE YELLOW SUN THE SYMBOL of SOUTHERN NUMISMATIC GRADING The word for the "A" is missing here. I'll bet that YELLOW SUN is the yellow area covering the Coin World logo! Can you submit your coins for grading? There is no website for SNGA that I can find. Referring back to Tradewinds' SNGA grading guaranty, they word it such as though they are NOT related... SNGA has implemented a Buy-Back Plan to guarantee that people will be satisfied whenever they buy one of their slabbed coins or notes. This also implies that the guarantee is transferrable by the use of the words "whenever they buy". This is very poor wording by the seller making an implication of guarantee from someone else! So again I ask WHO is SNGA? How do you contact them? I'll bet that the OVERGRADING guarantee is the same as RETURN guarantee to Tradewinds. You've got 10 days from the END OF THE AUCTION to return the overgraded item. Again..... CRAVAT EMPTOR
legally, no, ethically, maybe. The problem lies in the limited duration of their grade guarantee and the fact that they are unknown and not industry accepted, so who knows if their credentials are real or if they will be around 6 months or a year or 10 years from now. so wrong, no, but it is certainly dangerous to unknowledgable buyers.
I have done business with both Trademark Jewelry And Blue Creek Coins and I've purchased SNGA graded coins from both of them. I have yet to buy a coin I feel was improperly graded. I've been collecting coins for over 55 years and SNGA is a great alternative to paying the high price PCGS or NGC want for grading and slabbing a coin. SNGA' $9.99 rate is about the cheapest rate around. As for SNGA's website it is located at sngrading.com, a fact that anyone who would take the time to read the listing would find out for themselves. As for their guarantee on the grade the coin does not have to be returned to get a refund on the grading cost when you receive your slab submission back from SNGA. All you need to do is notify the dealer from whom you purchased the prepaid certifcates of your disagreement on the grade and a refund will be issued. YOU HAVE 30 DAYS TO DO THIS, according to their website. This guarantee also goes to coins purchased from Blue Creek Coins or Trademark Jewelry. The only difference is you must return the coin within 30 days to receive a refund. Lastly to the ignoramous who said the yellow (or now Blue) sun covers up the Coin World logo you need to do a little research or buy a SNGA graded coin. The yellow or blue sun is painted on the inside of the slab. If it covered up a logo you would be able to see the Coin World Logo thru the paint. SNGA has been around at least 3 years already as that's how long I've been buying their slabbed coins; and they have slabbed over 16,600 coins and notes as of the end of 2007. This info is on their website too. It doesn't take much to figure out that if they weren't doing a great job, and had to refund everyone's money, that they would be out of business by now.
Welcome to the forum Big Bill. Wow, you'd think you worked for them! Now don't get me wrong as I'm not saying you do. Seriously though if you hang around the forum and start reading about Third Party Graders you'll find we, as a bunch, are VERY leery and with good reason. Mosr are garbage and if you've been at if for 55 years I'm betting you're well aware of that. I noticed the Alabama connection some time ago and believe I may have started a thread about it. Probably emailed the company as well. Can't say I rembember for sure as do this fairly often. Perhaps I will send a "test coin" in. In the meantime is it possible for you to post pictures of any of your SNGA graded coins without revealing the grade so members can take a guess? Could be very interesting and may just well back up your point. Won't know until we try now will we? clembo
I disagree. I don't know that it's the case with that particular operation, but many self-slabbers/people who sell over-graded coins have excellent feedback and few complaints and/or returns. That is because their primary customers are people who are unknowledgeable about coins and grading. Also, many of the buyers are happy as clams because they think they are getting bargains and they don't realize until it is too late that they have gotten anything but that. Can you show us a few images of some of the coins you have bought from that company? Thanks and welcome.
Check out blue creek coins on ebay - they have some snga coins for sale, like this coin here. I know I am not an expert, but I think I see wear on this coin. I think you can save your money.
I find it interesting that "Big Bill" knows so much about the three entities involved - including all that information on returns that contradicts what the sellers themselves specify in their listings. My big questions, however, revolve around this statement: What standard is used to determine the grade accuracy? If SNGA calls it MS69, and SGS calls it MS70, does that count? What price will be paid for a misgraded coin? Anthing from 1¢ to and including the PCGS price guide value would comply with that statement.
Not unloading on Blue Creek Coins here, having never dealt with them, but being a member of the ANA tells me absolutely nothing. ANYONE can be a member of the ANA just pay the fees. I used to be a member of the ANA but didn't think it was worth my money. That's all.
Having looked at some listings of SNGA coins on Ebay, I am of the opinion that their grading is liberal (surprise, surprise). I would bet that winning bidders end up with over-graded coins and that many of those buyers don't know enough about grading to even consider trying to make use of the "guarantee". What a great deal for the sellers.
I'm guessing that he was being facetious but failed to add a wink emoticon at the end of his post. If that's the case, it was unfortunate, as not everyone will know he was kidding. Edited to add: I see from his follow-up post that such was the case.
