Have you ever seen an Hobo Nickel Pennie? The coins' metal is moved around by the 'carver' to create a certain design. Much the same has begun to happen with the coin you have.........someone was moving the metal.

 

This looks like somebody took a metal file and was scraping around the coin. This can move the metal and will give the appearance you see. This is 100% PMD - you have a severely damaged quarter.

Mods should make a seperate forum called "Severely Damaged Coins That Newbies Insist Are Rare Mint Errors" and then move these posts there so we can see all these delusions in one place.

Good stuff! unfortunately we can't choose who becomes a collector or not, some need just a little push to become better numismatists. Ah, humbug, I have a problem with folks trying to create a cashless society, talk about a big hit to our monetary system.

Next time, don't act like such an idiot and you might learn something.

 

The bother was that you insisted that it wasn't PMD before you had any real knowledge of what it was. If you have a question, we will do our best to answer it, but don't make proclamations without knowledge.

Send it in then. If you don’t think it’s PMD, send it in. I reccomend NGC but PCGS also works.

 

No it's just wishful thinking on my part I'm sorry I really need to learn a whole lot more this will teach me a big lesson I got rid of the quarter.

Next time, please keep an open mind on whether your coin exhibits PMD or an error. It is easier for all of us.

 

Oh yeah, this thread. I saw it when it was first posted.
I thought it was a joke thread so I skipped it.

So much PMD I thought it was just funny.

The one thing to learn. Start thinking "Damage" first, instead of an error.
PMD is UNLimited.
Errors are LIMITED.

Learn about how dies are made, and how errors are made. Then you'll be worlds wiser.

Stop thinking like a Coin Collector in regards to damage. Damage is Unlimited.
