I got extremely lucky recently and found an 1888/7 Indian Head! Just wanted to share my pics. :) There are some scratches on the obverse of the coin, so it won't grade cleanly. I plan on sending it off to PCGS soon. It looks like G-6 details to me, so not sure if it will end up with a G or VG details designation.

I do wish you the very best with it, but from the photos ( and I know it can be different under a scope where you can focus on different level) I can not say it looks like S-1 nor S-2 of the variety. The top left of the last 8 doesn't look like the guides, and the projection at the bottom of the last 8 doesn't appear extended enough. I do not see the diagnostics for S-2 either, Hope I am wrong.

    Welcome Mike.
Maybe just the image but I'm not seeing the 7 sticking out of the upper loop of the 8.
Has Rick Snow taken a look at the coin?

It's pretty tough to get a shot of the upper part of the 7. There is also a nick to the left of where it would be, which makes it tough to see. But I can see it in hand with a couple of loops on top of each other.

desertgem, the projection on the bottom is actually tricky too. It is sort of an illusion how it looks like it doesn't extend enough. In hand, if you tilt the loop on more of a horizon view, I can see more of the 7 sticking out from the bottom farther over to the left.

Also, what really confirms it for me is the weak 8th feather tip. Almost all of the known 1888/7's have this feature.

Here's a few more pics. In the first one, you can see the bottom of the 7 extending more. In the second one, you can see the top of the 7.

    Not at all, huh?
I think it's pretty easy to see the bottom of the 7.

This is the Snow-1 1888/7 all day long--and worthy of a special mention. The 8/7 area is clean and obvious--confirmed by the date position as well. Congrats!

It may be too worn to see the cud--but I see some evidence--the other markers stand out.

I easy see the bottom of the 7 stick out. If you also look closely you can see the cud on the rim. It is almost work flat. I say real deal.

this is my find. Now I have been reading up on these what really bothers me is that the 7 is OVER the 8 and not the other way around. I just sent it out to get graded - but can not find anything on this variety. Can anyone fill me in.

I answered your post. Your coin is not the same as this coin; very sorry you sent it to get graded before waiting on answers. It’s going to likely get body bagged.

The OP coin in this thread is real. Yours in the Error Coin forum is fake.

I see both the bottom and the top. I say it matches the Snow picture nicely!
