Hey gang, being home sick has it's advantages, lots of time. I have almost finished my " virtual grading set", all filed in folders and organized to my system. I have been saving pictures of Lincoln slabbers for many moons. Different dates, grades, and grading services. I file them like this: 1909 VDB, MS-63 Red, folder name inside I have 6 examples in 63 red, 3 by each TPG, pictures saved like this: Pvdb.63RD.P.O1 / Pvdb.63RD.N.R3..... 1st example is 09-VDB. grade and color.PCGS.Obverse coin 1 2nd example is 09-VDB. grade and color.NGC.Reverse coin 3 I have saved as many as 3 coins per grade per service, only NGC and PCGS so far. Each date and mm gets it's own folder within the main "Grading Set" folder. Simple to do, FREE, and once it's done, it's done. I can pull any coin from my dbl row boxes, yank the folder and compare to the pro's. I have done this with circulated grades as well when ever I can find them. My solution to a very large problem with coin collecting, THE BUDGET !! You could even take it a step further, build a "virtual tpye set" or anything like that. Rainy day stuff you know? AntiSlabbers, feel free to shoot this down, but hey, it's still coin collecting, right? Beats playing " Fantasy Football" !!!! LOL
Rainy day stuff? From the sounds of what you've done it must have been raining a lot in the land of dry heat! Sounds like a heck of a project. Imptessive to say the least. clembo
LOL, I have been sick all week, nothing better to do. It sounded good to me when I started it, but it did stop me from spending any money for 12 hours !!
I think it's a great idea! It should help to see some of the variables that affect the grade of a coin. I guess the hard part is making sure the pictures really represent the actual coin well. Hope you feel better!
grading set how about some nice pics..................i may want to have a grading set too and could just print yours!!! LOL steve
I think just about everybody does this to some degree. Just make sure that when you do it, you do it for your own personal use only ! Some folks get downright upset when you copy their copyrighted pictures for any other use.
My grading set was not free but I should be able to sell it for what it cost me when the time comes. It has been very useful in learning to distinguish between MS grades. (Yes, I know. The second MS-60 is a typo.)
I can't say that I'm a fan of TPG services, I think its mostly a money trap, BUT I am trying to learn to grade BU/MS coins. Having and expert eye for MS65 and up grades can take a very long time, from what I understand and I believe it. I feel it takes seeing 10's of hundred even thousands of the same coin to know the difference with any true acqurancy. I have a small collection of slabbed coins, PCGS, NGC, that contain MS65 grades which I use to help learn the difference in what is better then them and waht is not. It is a start. Keep up the good work, you'll certainly benifit from it years from today. Yes it is FUN! Happy Collecting Allen
That is so cool, I like it!!! Just for the sake of my sick curiousity what did that holder cost you. Actually I have a very real need to know if you would mind sharing. Thanks and keep collecting. Allen
I don't want to sell my set but I can probably get some more sets if you are interested. The price may have gone up a bit since I bought mine ($332). I'll look into the current cost of a set. PM me if you are interested.
I'm interested in the cost of the holder not the coin. I'm working on producing a high quality custom holder for any coin set, sets etc. I'm currently collecting data on current cost of holders and what people believe they can or should pay for them. Just curious. Thanks, Allen
