Wow, these guys know their material!
Bing's special legionary is certainly impressive even to one who is not conversant with that field (me). However, he did not make any comment about the "deal" he got, so I have to get that aspect from the peanut gallery. Hmmm. RC was all about the incredible deal.

Bing went for historical and RC went for numismatic, sort of. A large part of what RC had to say about why his Nerva is interesting was focused on its scarcity in the marketplace, but he did not comment much on its numismatic significance (e.g. does it fill in a gap?). Bing gave us a nice glimpse at the historical setting for the special legionary piece, pinpointing the significance of the team behind the icon.

As for appearance, the photos are not of equal merit, but Bing's item seems to be more complete in the clarity of its design and textual elements.

If they had a category for a honking schnoz (look it up), Andrew has a Galba that would take it hands down.

Went with @Bing in the "historical interest" category.

Went with @Roman Collector in the "best bargain" category.

It was a tossup for me on the "eye appeal" category. I considered the two pretty equally matched. Finally went for @Bing's coin ... by a nose.

Liked them both. For some reason, @Roman Collector's denarius didn't click with me as being a Nerva at first glance. My brain said "Tribute Penny" for a nanosecond.

I really enjoyed reading the write ups for these coins, lots of great info! And I now appreciate the scarcity of both coins. Going to be a touch call.

    Tough choice again!

I finally decided on Bing's coin for value/historical significance/ while I picked Roman Collectors Nerva Denarius for eye appeal.

This match up was special because it featured two top CT contributors and good friends. Roman Collector came out on top in the bargain category with his excellent cherry pick of a Nerva but Bing took both eye appeal and interest to come out ahead in the overall score.

@Bing will advance to face the winner of the @Clavdivs vs @Pavlos match up.
