If it walks like a duck, talks like a duck, then.....

In some cases there will be more than one doubled die that have very similar appearances. In those cases the other die markers can be used to tell the two apart. It can also help if a new doubled die is discovered that looks like a previously known one, but the lack of, or having different markers can prove it is a newly discovered die.
