So I wanna buy this coin from a guy and I just want to get an idea if it is real or not. It does not stick to a magnet and does look like the real 1943 super rare copper cent. Any help would be much appreciated.
The grainy surface would give me pause. And in this day of the TPG's I would be doubtful of a raw cent that is this rare that is not entombed in TPG plastic. If it isn't authenticated. There is probably a reason why.
So the guy who owns this coin lives in a 3rd world country and there are not too many coin collectors nor are there any ways to get an appraisal for the coin. He is just saying to make an offer and take the coin. That's why I am getting an online idea if it is worth taking a risk or not.. BTW I don't buy US coins that often as my interest is in Ancient Romans
If I remember correctly, this cent's value is in the tens of thousands of dollars if authentic. And it is a popular Chinese knock-off target. I suppose if a fellow was asking ten bucks I might buy it in the off chance that something is there. I suspect he knows what he has though.
Maybe take a look at this web page and see if it doesn't help you make up your mind. https://www.thesprucecrafts.com/genuine-or-fake-1943-copper-penny-768883
Seller also requires your social security number, date of birth, and mother's maiden name for 'security purposes'.
The top part of the 3 looks like it could have been an 8 at one time. Also if you look at the bottom of the 3 , it looks also like something may have been added to give it the look of the tail in the original. I am not a coin pro by any means , but I would just not chance losing 4k on the outside chance it may be real. I doubt if it is. Keep you money . Dillan
that's Insane. seems anybody who's been living on this planet for a while and paying attention would understand that...… (sigh)…. never mind!! ancient romans eh?
I can't believe you would even consider a deal like this. Everything about this from the "coin" to the sales policy is the poster child for red flags.
yeah .. but .. but .. but ... but ... but the upside potential is enormous for my $4,000 USD investment !! yikes ..
If you wanna invest $4000 on something, I have a few ideas...All of them involve giving the money to me and me disappearing into the ether
