I found this proof and it looks to be a doubled die. I am trying to decide which one it is. FS-01-1971S-101 or 102. What do you think?
I'm not seeing anything that compares to this. http://www.varietyvista.com/01b LC Doubled Dies Vol 2/DDO 1971-S.htm
I sometimes see doubling on coins but then I clean my glasses and reveal the truth. It looks like it maybe a worn die to me.
Nice photos. The serifs on the "E" look like doubling. I have heard that Proofs are struck twice, and that can cause a type of doubling that is different from what is called a Doubled Die struck coin. Keep up with your research. May have to check with Wexlers http://www.doubleddie.com/1801.html
I see this in coins when I have the light off to one side but when I move the light directly over coin and take pics straight on they are gone. So you might try moving light and retake pics. Just a thought. Full pics of coin would also help.
