    yup.
From some recent posts in other threads, Ive decided to sell any notes I cant keep, or dont want, on the forum.
However, there are still some notes I would pass, and not save for the forum. For example, if I received a star note in change, but it was really beat up and torn, I'd just spend it.

I had recieved a star note silver certificate in change from a gas station once. Went to the the store with my parents an hour later, and spent it without realizing it.

Not paper money, but i remember when i was a kid in the 1980's i would sometimes find "weird looking coins". I used to find pennies with wheat stalks on the back or dimes with some greek god on the face. Yup, Merc dimes in change. I never looked at the dates. I *think* i kept them, but no idea where i put them. They are prob long gone.

But i just wish i could go back to those days and see what i was holding.

Nowadays, everything gets a quick scan :)

However, i've been amasing quite a few 1995 series $1's that i think it's time to save the best and put the rest back in circulation. I also have a bunch of notes with unique serials i've saved that now that i think about it...really won't be worth much. I may cherry pick the best and put about $20-30 back into circ.

i dont pass on much lately, but i also am not able to search bundles of singles 3 times a week anymore. I should be able to pick that up again once schools gets out this summer!!

Working in retail most of my younger years, i know i passed out alot of tid-bits un-knowingly. not that i know, i am out of retail :D go figure huh? I would say now, 99.9% of what i come across doesnt leave. My step father did pay for something over this christmas visit with a $20*, but it happened so fast, i wasnt able to stop it :p

In the late 1960's, after hoarding silver quarters (which we got a face value from the cafeteria cashier at school), I needed money to buy a camera and turned in 6 rolls of them at the bank for face value. I saved 3 rolls which I still have.

So nobody has any thoughts on my question?

"where's the best place to spend obsolete notes to give them the best fighting chance to avoid the FRB's shredders? "

Spend them at a currency and or coin show.

I had a dealer give me a rag of a $20 national for change once. Still have it so I guess it worked.
I also used to spend a lot of star notes at currency shows.

I'd be willing to buy certain notes at face for older series. To some they may be worthless, but if i don't have a particular note i may want a low-cost example just to say I have one.

be careful Mike, as i have found out in past threads, offers to buy, trade and such are for PM's.

but i agree with your thoughts 100%

I try to block memories like these out of my mind. I really hate remembering some of the good ones I've let go.
