I found this quarter in circulation. I tried to wash clothes and it fell through the washing machine. It definitely weighs less than a quarter. It also is smaller in circumference. It’s not as big around as a regular quarter. Also. It has no raised edge at all. There’s no lip. I thought it was pretty cool, so I thought I would join and see what you’ll thought of it
    Thanks

Its just a heavily worn out coin. Looks like somebody ran it through a sharpener rock.

Ok thanks. I wonder why someone would take a machine to it

    Don't wonder why.
people do all sorts of things to coinage .. an UNLIMITED things.

When I did a jewelry stuff I used to use coins instead of "blanks". As blanks cost say 17 cents each and were worthless after damage, coins were still worth face value. If you want to test your "center" on a lathe, use a coin. Buffer sides to something .. use coins (as they'll take a light strike/damage as well as a blank and cost NOTHING to use).

What does the edge/rim look like where the date is?
If the rim is intact it could be something.

If you found it at a laundromat, it's a safe bet it spent a little time in a dryer. Looks like dryer damage to me, anyway.

I'd guess a dryer coin also.

Welcome to Coin Talk the forum for all your coin questions. When putting in a question, you do not have to put in the poll along with the question. There are many knowledgeable members on here that have many years of experience . Coins like your quarter most likely fell out of someone's clothing while being dried in the drier. The coins get lodged and gets worn down by the circular rubbing motion of the machines drum as displayed by @Mountain Man . It is nice to have new members bring their questions to the forum. The more questions asked helps people like myself to learn a lot about coins and the collectors world. Feel free to ask other questions that may come to mind. The best thing I can say about Coin Talk is that it has educated me in lots of different areas. You will always get 99.99999999...… % answers that are with out a doubt correct. Hope to see you back again . Dillan
